Molasses

Has anyone used a Molasses and water mix to strip panels or parts before ? If so how did it go and what mix did you use ? Or are there any other other products I can dip some parts in to clean them up for painting. I dont want to sandblast them as I'm on a budget.

molasses and water?! never heard of that one! i just stripped an EH guard tonite using the cheapest paint stripper i could get at bunnings.... was 11 bucks for a litre..only used half the can but i reckon it ripped thru about 5 layers of paint and about 20 kilo's of bog that was in the panel!
oh yeah. dont get it on your hands. it burns. dont get itchy and scratch your face with paint stripper hands. it burns. ;)

Paint stripper is the way to go at home, remove EVERY chrome strip or other mouldings and be meticulous in cleaning up after as per details on the tin. Molasses and equal water is ok to bath bolts and small items in,is slow but sure. I use hydrochloric acid and water mix for small parts and bolts,is quick and must be cleaned and primed straight away, not for alloy or aluminium though. Donald
