Not all 253s are aussie pattern, WB 253s as specced for the police force(in divvy vans)were turbo pattern as they ran the TH350, also the early auto 253s in HTs were powerglide so they may also be turbo pattern but I can't confirm this as I have never seen a factory one.

the early 253/308 from the HT series were in fact fitted with powerglides but these blocks were in fact trimatic pattern....the bellhousing is different to that of a powerglide fitted to a chev which is standard turbo pattern.....thus why they r a sought after bellhousing....
the wb divvy vans i dont know about but im doubting they would bother creating a turbo pattern 253....I also doubt a divvy van would be fitted with a V8.....but then again ive never seen one so this could be true....

Why would you doubt that there were V8 divvy vans? Most divvy vans in country NSW and Vic up to 1980 were F100s, 351 autos and when they went back to Holdens they were using WB 253s with modified top and bottom tailgates so they could have a single barn door. I have seen one of these turbo 253s myself as my brother bought an ex divvy WB van that we converted into a ute and it was fitted with a TH350 behind the 253, when we pulled the tranny for a recon the back of the block didn't show any signs of being modified and was definitely turbo pattern not some sort of bellhousing conversion.
Also as far as V8 divvy vans go I was told by a friend of mine(whos father was the senior sargeant)that Dareton police station had a pair of XB falcon divvy vans from about 1975 and both were 351 autos.

253 and T400??
Just curious, are you sure it's this combo, it must run an adapter kit if it's a 253/T400 as all 253s were Trimatic pattern blocks!
Cheers
Peter
