Blue head on red six

Hey everyone

Just planning my HR ute project - I'm going to run straight LPG and was thinking of putting a blue head on the red 186... my question is can I use 186S headers and a VK injection manifold together on the blue head? Or do I need to run a set of blue headers/extractors?

cheers,
hrmad

im doing somthing similar, a vk manifold on a red head. the mount points are a bit different so make sure the headers you have, have the mounting 'tangs' (the bit where the bolts pull on the manifold) that run the full width of the manifold face. make sense?

listen... u can hear the fords rusting

i didnt think any red headers fitted the blue head.
blue 12 port head is significantly different to the red9.

Just get some nice extractors for extra power :)

As said the red block to blue/black head requires some filling and drilling of oil and water passages, but can be done. The VK EFI manifold will bolt upto a blue/black head no probs, but the 186S headers won't be compatible sorry, you'll need to run VK efi spec extractors, no others will fit. They had stainless steel ones fitted when new, however these are often cracked when you buy secondhand nowadays.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Looks like I might ditch the blue head idea and just stick with a red head (might upset the wife as she is blonde, but hey :)).... still thinking of using VK EFI inlet manifold thou :)

Sorry but you'll have to ditch the efi manifold too, it won't go on a 9 port red head, you need the 12 port blue/black head for that manifold!

1: Why would you want to run injectors with all the electronic hassles when you are running gas? The injectors won't suit gas and anyway it usually direct into manifold or air intake.
2: Use a black head they are better flowed and larger valves.
3: Nope the manifolds won't fit red motors.

1. The injectors would be ditched - the use of the intake manifold was to help with mid-range torque (increases it by 10% when used with LPG apparently)

2. noted :)

3. I have a set of 186S headers that I wanted to use - guess I would have to run a suitable set of extractors instead! :)

thanks
