Sydney Cruise Easter 2010 (April 2 -5)

Lets start to put some ideas in place for a Sydney cruise in Easter 2010. There is some interest from members already and the time frame will hopefully give those of us with cars off the road enough time to get them on the road.
We are only at the first stage of planning and need as much feedback from anyone interested as possible.
We need to decide on everything from the starting point to ending point and any points of interest in between.
I have created an email address which anyone can contact me on if they wish. Please do so sooner rather than later because these things tend to take a lot more time and effort than people realise.
Initially all I would like to know is WHO IS INTERESTED, WHAT DAY/S OF THE WEEKEND ARE BEST SUITED and any suggestions for a meeting point (EASTERN CREEK) has been suggested and a finishing point, maybe out west PENRITH or south west even.

Send me an email to

oh_syd_cruise_2010@exemail.com.au

RUSTY, WILL YOU PLEASE STICK THIS POST TO THE TOP SO IT'S ACCESSABLE

How about Eastern Creek to

How about Eastern Creek to Windsor at the picnic area just over the Hawkesbury river bridge? (If it's still there)
Count us in on Sunday.
David

Old is good.

I'm easy

From wherever (Sutherland or Eastern Creek) to Windsor sounds good to me.

Personally of the Easter weekend the Friday or Saturday or even Monday is easiest and accessible.

I'll go with whatever is decided, given this will be my first event of this kind.

There are a couple of places out west we could cruise to, as others have sugested Windsor has a nice picnic spot. The lakes at Penrith is another good one.

Thirlmere

Thanks for the heads up. After 20 years of building my car there is no way in the world I would take it on a gravel road. I still like the idea of Eastern Creek out to Penrith/ Windsor or similar.
Has anyone been to the Museum of Fire at Penrith. I thought it might be a good spot to stop at.
Here's their web site. Any comments welcome.

Museum of Fire

Haven't been there recently but they used to have some pretty good car shows there. They still have a big truck show there every year.

It's just around the corner from the lakes at Penrith, so could be cool to stop there for a look before heading to the lakes for lunch.

Museum of Fire

Thanks David, I will put it down as a possible stopping point.
Maybe we start at Eastern Creek go down the M4 or Great Western highway to Penrith. Do the Museum of Fire, lunch at Penrith Lakes then head up Windsor way.
I know of a private collection of rare cars out at Penrith. I know the owner well and will see if he is interested in letting us have a look through the collection. No promises but it's worth asking the question.

I would love to come. I'll

I would love to come. I'll keep an eye on this thread for the final route. Also I vote ending at Windsor, that way I can come home (to Newy) via the putty road. You know, for fun.

fatman

Do you have any preference for a route, ie staring point and stops for lunch etc. Also do you have a preference for a day?

No preference. I don't really

No preference. I don't really know anything around that area, and I'll be free all weekend.

Fatman

I am based in Newcastle too.

Wanna form a convoy to and from the cruise?

I wouldn't mind cruising the putty on the way back...

I am at Wallsend near the twin Shells.

museum of fire

The museum of fire would be good never been in side the place always wanted to have a look around. Cruising down the great western hwy would be better then the M4 turn more heads that way.

spare parts

Just thought of this why were on the way upto windsor we can stop at the northern road auto wreckers and get some spare parts lol

I have a hq and my names not dave.

Is the Northern Road wreckers

Is the Northern Road wreckers still there?
Last time I saw it was nearly 30 years ago and it looked liked most of the stuff had been in it for 30 years.
David

Old is good.

Old is good

I went through there a few years back and it was still there. might be a good stopping point. I'll note it as a stopping point.

Sure is

Yeah the old northern road wreckers is still standing drove past a couple of weeks back. Not sure if they have much old holdens havnt been inside in a while. Ill bring my tools but.

I have a hq and my names not dave.

They are still there

I found a drivers seat and a few miscellaneous pieces for my BMW last year.

In terms of old Holdens, they have a good amount, not as badly picked over as say the ones at Pick N Payless but you can't go there with a specific piece in mind - see what's left and if anything has value. Mostly HJ-HZ's but a few older and a couple of Toranas.

There was a perfectly straight HJ-HZ front bumper there when I was last at Northern. Will need rechroming but it didn't have any obvious bumps or dents.

Sydney Cruise

I'll put a suggestion out there now for the cruise. All comments welcome

Saturday 3rd April.
Meet at Eastern Creek at 10.00am. Leave Eastern Creek at 11.00am and drive down the Great Western highway to Penrith. Stop at the Museum of Fire in Penrith. Have a look around (or stop and chat).
Lunch at Penrith (suggestions welcome.) Probably somewhere near the river.
Travel up Northern Road to Richmond or Windsor stopping at the wreckers spoken about earlier in the thread (for those who wish to).
Stop again somewhere in Windsor. Afternoon tea.
Leave for home from there.
Its a fairly basic suggestion as I don't want to become a big brother and create a sh1t fight like our western state members.

These are the members who have said they are interested in participating.

The road from Pitt Town (near Windsor) to Wisemans Ferry via Maroota and Old Northern Road, then down the Hawkesbury and over Mangrove Mountain is a very good drive for the way home to Newcastle. It comes out onto the freeway at Calga.

Scott, I would say we'd drive down with you but I dunno if we'll be staying in Sydney the night before - it might be a bit too long of a day to leave here that morning.

Yep I'm in the same boat except I need to have mine finished early to mid March for my wedding.

Off topic, myeh in a previous thread you mentioned Blu-chrome for chroming, is that who you used for your bumpers? and how did they turn out? I've got to get my bars done and they said they could turn them around in a week.

Blu chrome

David, Yes I do use them and have done so for the whole car build, 20 years. It's not a pretty shop but the work is excellent. I've only ever had one problem and that was on a used diff cover that had that much oil impregnated in it that the chrome lifted. They fixed it for free. I haven't had the bumpers replated yet. I've only had them stripped so I could "adjust" them before they're plated. I don't see any problems.. Good luck getting the car finished..

Nathan and I won't be there.

Nathan and I won't be there. We've got the family home at Easter.

Old is good.

Is this cruise still

Is this cruise still happening or not???

Sydney Cruise.

I'm not sure. I have had to pull out as I will be busy with work. I think those people still going need to start talking and get things sorted. Remember everyone it is not one particular person responsiblity to organise things. Get talking and sort it out..

Sydney Cruise

Did the cruise go ahead? If so how was it? Did anyone take some pics they can post..

I went

Drove to Eastern Creek with my girlfriend. We drove between the Eastern Creek gates for a while but didn't see anyone so left, took a cruise down Heathcote Road.

Ironically we did see one (EH I think?) as we left Eastern Creek but the driver didnt meet my eyes or wave as we passed so I assumed it was a random and we just left.

Did see a few other Holdens around as we cruised: a white HR around Liverpool, another white HR in Wattle Grove, a HZ Stato pulling a trailer in Sutherland and another HR (wagon) back in the inner city.

Plus a XA or XB Falcon hardtop coupe early in the day. But that doesn't count!

Shame it didn't all work out, too many people had to work or accomodate family i guess. Maybe choosing Easter was problematic. I'd be up for a run on a weekend that's nowhere near a public holiday.

Long time looker, first time owner.
(1979 HZ)

Thats a shame

At last count there were 19 people going and about 6 or so pulled out so there should have been at least a dozen cars. It's a shame those who gave no indication they weren't going didn't bother to turnup. It makes it hard to bother spending the time to organise another event. Lets see what happens later in the year..

Sydney Cruise

I think the issue was that the actual time and date was never finalised and agreed on, it was proposed to do it on Saturday but the way I read it wasn't set in stone. I think it fell apart when you had to pull out, it's a pity there wasn't someone else able to take over with organising it.

I'm guessing a lot of us probably assumed it wasn't going ahead (at least that's what I thought) I didn't really push the issue because I wasn't 100% sure I'd be able to make it (as it turns out I wouldn't have made it). Had I thought it was a goer I would have posted something to say I couldn't make it.

I'm still keen to do something in the future, I just need to get some miles on the car first and iron out a couple of minor bugs, the last couple of months have been absolutely crazy for me. If nothing happens beforehand, I'm going to the All Holden Day in August and would be keen to catch up with any other oldholdeners that are going too.

I'm sorry the Easter cruise didn't work out, it would have been nice to meet some of the local oldholdeners.

All holden day

Was never going to work with

Was never going to work with the organiser pulling the pin!

Surely that is not the case

All the members that said they were coming were capable of looking after themselves. Everyone is capable of posting in the thread and saying they can make the cruise. All the info is in the thread so every person was capable of turning up without someone having to hold their hand. I think it was a matter of most people placing the responsibility on one person and then sitting back and making excuses.

mattshk

the organiser of the vic cruise pulled out a few weeks before the cruise, i simply took over and got things organised and the cruise went ahead!

instead of moaning about it then why didn't you just take over and get things organised?

Because, A. My car is far

Because,

A. My car is far from ready to be out cruising
B. Im in Victoria
C. I had no intention on attending

I was simply stating that when an organiser pulls out with such little numbers its more than likely that people will simply cross it off the list, especially at Easter.

Not having a moan. I can't wait to go cruising when I eventually finish the coupe.

Just thought it was a bit rough having a go at the people who said they would/may go, because none of them picked up the slack and took over organisation.

Start off small I say... Just a small cruise, BBQ and then beers..

Im not organising it though haha

Syd cruise

I want to apoligise for not attending the cruise abd not being able to post up online that i couldnt make it family dramas come up over the easter long weekend sorry guys. Maybe if we can get something else organised on a normal weekend might work better. i was at the easter show this weekend they had old fords on display maybe we could get an oldholden display next year.
