HR Heater....is there such a thing?

G'Day Champions....

Real quick one...Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as a heater in the HR...I know that's sad huh...you'd think I know....I own one!

The dilemma I have is , when I bought the old girl...there is only one lever on the heater/air.....switch ...and that's the lever in the centre...

Man this sounds more and more stupid as I type...

My problem is this....Since there is only the lever in the middle of the switching unit...and very little markings after 36 years of driving....I cannot for the life of me determine whether I am opening or closing vents or whether I am even doing anything at all when i move that lever!

So having said that...can anyone give me some idea as to how these things work , so as when i get up at the crack of a sparrow's fart , i can do something with the fog on the windows , and the ice on my nether region!

Go you good things!....

Zeke.

Yep, some HRs had heaters. The Premier's probably had them standard. All had an adjustable vent of course. Now since I've never had an HR, I can't give the full G-O, but methinks its time you took your brave pills, your flexibility pills and grabbed a small mirror and a torch. You are gonna have to learn the hard way, just like I did - lying on your back in the passenger side foot well, squinting up in behind the dashboard. Trace the rod or lead that comes from just behind the lever on the dash and see what/if its connected to.....
If it sounds a bit daunting, don't worry. Its not exactly crowded or hi-tech back there!
Have fun!
Sally.

Please use, Holdenpaedia will get the first box on the left side. Post any suggestions.

I've yet to see one that really works properly anyway, mine and my wifes used to demist the bottom two inches of the windscreen, not that useful and as for heat, you're better off punching a hole through your firewall ;) I've unplugged them both now and will be taking mine out of my car soon enough.

Hi Zeke

Yes, the HRs did come with a heater - the Premier had one standard.

Mine is very nice in this weather.

If you look around enough, you will find one - most of them were converted to new tap from the head rather than the original tap under the dash with a thermostat. Whichever, they have an effective demister, for which you'll need to find ducting.

I sounds like your HR has the standard plenum chamber control which, in short, either lets air in or it doesn't. If you get an original heater it has three cables and controls.

There was also a motorless heater which had the heater core, but no fan. Decidedly downmarket!

Whichever, it's usually best to install them in warm weather...

Stay warm!

You could get two types, the wizz bang fan assisted heater/demister, and a standard heater core that mounted over the vent under the dash. These can be plumbed in very easily and by using a HQ-HZ heater tap, it works in reverse to the dash levers but at least you can turn them off at the dash! Good news is I have one of these setups, worked great really toasty on these cold mornings! Happy to listen to an offer or supply a photo of what I have. Please email peteramanda@iprimus.... or phone 0417 662 541 to discuss further.

Cheers

Peter
