202 uses water
I have a holden 202 hz ute (1978) It seems to use alot of water, it doesnt get hot, runs normal temp, new radiator and best of my knowledge the thermostat is good,no visible leaks and no leaky head gasket as the oil is like new ,i have to top it up couple times a week and it takes about a litre each time, is this normal for the vehicle.thanks to all replys.

If your head and your
If your head and your radiator are good then it has to be that heater lines are consuming water through the motor or you do have a leak somwhere. If the motor is not using it then its impossible for it to just disapear its leaking or being consumed.

Uses Water
Had one years ago that did the same thing and it was found to be escaping through the overflow tube as the spring on the radiator cap had lost its tension and was letting water past at low preasure when it got to normal running temp. Hopefully that's all it is.

IF IN DOUBT, GO FLAT OUT!
thirsty 202
do you have a recovery overflow bottle?
if not, is the cap to suit a recovery system? these are more common than the "standard" caps these days - perhaps someone has put one on for some reason.
these caps allow coolant to escape into the overflow bottle when it gets warm and expands, then when it cools it sucks back in from the bottle. obvously without the bottle you will lose some coolant out the overflow tube, then there is none left to replace it when it wants to suck it back in.
solution? the correct cap to suit non recovery system, or add an overflow bottle.
202 uses water
Thanks to all those who replied regarding my 202 using water..i tried a new radiator cap as mine doesnt have a recovery water bottle and that fixed the prob,no worrys now and a big saving on buying radiator inhibitor each week.
too good!
too good!
i would check the cap first
i would check the cap first , if its ok and still loosing water , check you welsh plugs in the block and the head they can leak slowly if they rusted and if the engine hot water will dry/evaporate before you see any sign of a leak , and also check heater core is not leaking .
wombat.
uses water
First just go out and buy a new radiator cap. That should fix the problem
