How about we meet at bendigo, and drive the distance to the town of echuca. and visit the echuca holden muesum
OR.......
meet in echuca, then drive to castlemaine, and re-visit the rod shop muesum, and then maby go to a tourest attractin called "whoop whoop", just outside of castlemaine. its a collection of australiania items, supposably pretty funny stuff. i have a short video of it on dvd
we can make the cruise in summer, to give us plenty of budget saving time etc
plenty of accomdation around if yous want a overnight trip
Then, the next oldholden cruise after this one, somewhere around the ballarat side, maby stawell area? I can think of a car collection out there worth visiting

what month would suit the majority of you members? all i want is warmer weather, and preferably daylight saving
pretty much anywhere from nov to feb??
I'm out for November
Late Nov or maybe early December counts me out - the wife is due around then!....... Dont think I'd be to popular if I missed that one - which would further hinder my ability to allocate time to the 'H !
Any other time would be good.

Mavis Remembers correctly, im in Bendigo, and its probably about time i get out to put some faces.
Might i suggest in warmer weather, that we consider the Melville caves for a fire and a feed ? there is heaps of room there and its nice and quiet, stuff for the kids to explore and burn off the energy.
needless to say the VH wont be making its debut until maybe xmas 2010..
Melville Caves
I like that idea Ashley.
Probably because it's in my neck of the woods, and would make the perfect venue in the warmer months.
I don't really care where the cruise is, or where it starts or finishes, but I just think that for people to drive to Bendigo and then all the way to Echuca and home again would be a big ask.
Anyway we will see what pans out.

what other attractions are in the melville area?
i was only picking the trip to echuca because of the holden muesum.
No matter what town we pick, there will always be some that will be to far to attend

melville sounds ok, but we should at least see something car related, i like the idea of seeing the holden mueseum in echuca, there is also one it kaniva (near nhill) if the cruise came near ballarat i MIGHT be able to organise a foundry tour?

Most dudes won't go anywhere if it means they need to spend more than $20 on petrol.... history has shown that jack mac, HX308, dusty and a few others are not scared of driving but most the dudes who attend each cruise are the ones that live right near them.
Not so much a criticism from me but more an observation. If its going to be fun, then I'll be in it. blissy and I aren't scared to drive our showcars. lol

Well, I think the Holden Museum in Echuca is great, i have been quite a number of times. I think if we could find some nice bush in that area... Maybe the Barmah State Forest? which i have never visited but might be suitable.
That way if anyone is coming from or through bendigo we could meet up and cruise the 50-60 minute drive to echuca and meet the others at the museum.
i dunno. just a thought.
Sorry Stepto
I wish I hadn't said anything mate.
All I was trying to do is get a feeling as to who would travel to Echuca (I know some won't go past the end of their street) It really is well within my range and will be a lot closer for me than if I had to go to Melbourne (which I have done) as I am an hour from Bendigo and about an hour and a quarter from Echuca.
Attractions around Melville Caves?
Depending on what your likes/dislikes are there are heaps or zip.
I personally like driving on relatively quiet country roads at any pace you feel like, and stopping when you feel the need, but thats just me.
As I stated earlier, this area is my backyard and I don't want to push my opinions onto anyone, but if you would like more information about the surrounding attractions I will post them, even down to car related engineering that would surprise some as in it's remote location.
You started this thread and I for one thank you for doing so, and if you need any assistance please just ask, as another Vic Cruise is well overdue wherever that maybe.

Theres nothing stopping a second cruise being organised for later
Was thinking of charging $5 or $10 per car, that attends, and that collected money can be donated to Rusty, to help cover costs.

I'm keen for the GMH museum in Echuca, I'm from Benders.
Spring/Summer would be cool.
vote needs to be taken, so planning can go ahead
our options
The gmh muesum, in echuca
or
melville caves area
or
daylesford area
Personally i dont know of any other atractions around the melville caves area, except maby some winerys
I know of the rocking 50s shop in daylesford
here is 1 option--
prehaps we can make it a 2 day event, starting at ballarat, visiting daveqyeymads foundry, then lunch at daylesford lake area, visiting the rocking 50s shop, then to castlemaine, prehaps visiting the rod hadfield muesum again, and staying at a motel in either castlemaine or bendigo. or echuca. maby visit a winery near bendigo
I know the meals at the echuca rsl or tasty, but not really budget prices. theres pokies at the rsl also
next day.---visit the GMH muesum., and head back twords melbourne in the afternoon. maby a paddle boat ride for those who like
Its a expensive trip,. but plenty of time to save funds
other options are short day trips

THANKS
stepto, sorry for not getting back to you, iv'e been really busy lately, and then my car shat it's self yesterday grrrr
i have a option 2
start a foundry tour at ballarat in morning, head to castlemaine and tour hadfeilds (if we can) OR daylesford to 50's shop, picnic lunch, head to echuca, either tour holden mesuem then (could be getting late) or have a bbq tea and camp or motel then and tour muesem in the morning
people could start cruise at any point ballarat, daylesford/castlemaine or echuca

After chatting with davequeymad, we have set a date, a bit earlier then originally made. We picked 31 oct/1st nov.

Count me in! I'd like to go out echuca way sometime in the future.
Details from my mock cruise from Melton straight to marysville on the 27 may 2009, which was quite a nice drive and there is plenty of green coming up out that way and I'd expect more as a result of winter weather.
# Marysville bakery have ATM, with large indoor dining area. Contact Lynn or Maureen on 03 5963 3477
# Blackwood spur inn hotel. It looked pretty welcoming, though I didn't stop off. Originally I thought it was only a km or 2 from marysville, however it is actually 12.3km.
# Highwood spa & retreat
# A Caravan park (didn't catch the name, think it was at the petrol station not 5 minutes out of Marysville ($1.28 unleaded) and the best potato cake i've ever tasted.
# There were "Pancakes" being served from the orange tent, pretty much at 600-660 Maroondah Hwy Narbethong Vic 3778, not too far out of marysville, though I was too bloated to stop.
# A motel in marysville and one somewhere just out of Marysville that I noticed as I headed home.
# Hermitage Historic Guest House
Here is a link to some accommodation contacts.
Let alone the largest expanse of growing green blanket that your eyes have probably ever laid sight on amongst a sea of black; there is the township of Toolangi which I read escaped the fires, plenty of wineries and picnic grounds both on the outskirts and on the way to Marysville (for restroom stops and stretching the legs).

Here are a couple of pics from my mock trip to marysville. The melted looking old holden I think was out the front of a art gallery, not sure how far away from marysville!
This is the EK at marysville that I went to check out, which the photographer told me it might have been crushed. Looks like the picture was taken after the fire, as there seems to be puddles of melted metal amongst the grass. It was no longer there and there was a car crusher nearby with a pile of cars, but didn't end up finding out!

Let me be the first to welcome you to OH.com, unfortunately you have posted off topic, particularly in the victorian cruise faction and that isn't going to help your cause too much.
Your best bet is to start by looking at the right top section of this webpage and you will see 'Post story/Question here', which you'll need to click. It'll open a fresh new thread that will exclusively display whatever you want to type and that way people will see your thread and be able to respond. Maybe title your post "FB holden resto NSW", that way there is more potential oldholdeners living in nsw will read your post.

Victoria Cruises
Hi guys. I got a couple ideas to concider, even for futur cruises.
The black spur thing (Healsville, cockatoo, pakenham, yea, seymore run)
The nepean hwy. (A coastal run from Sorrenro/Rosebud to Melb/St kilda)
Queenscliff ferry then to geelong
The Great Ocean road (or part of it)
Bright hotrods. (or a trip to the North Eastern snow country in summer. Mt Buffallo)
The Grampians. (From Stawell to Halls Gap to horsham)
A Hume Hwy Run. (A little boring maybe. Melb to Wodonga.)
I don't mind travelling anywhere. I live in Melbourne but i'm even driving to Horsham on the weekend just to pick a new bullbar up. Horsham from Melb is only like 3 hours. Bendigo is only like 1.5/2hrs. Echucca is like 3.5. So its not as bad as people make out. Cheers.

update - contributions - vic cruise
THANKS
Boy, Boy, Boy - do I have some good news, after talking with the (marysville area) lions club secretary, Helen Maunsell, a couple of hours ago, I determined there is potential to secure about 10 parking spots on the main drag at Marysville for a display of our classic old holden's. That is if anyone is interested and details will need to be arranged further with Helen, depending on which OHer's were interested in showing there car for a few hours or so. Stepto and son, I give you the floor to run the show, I'd offer, except getting a job is my number one priority at the moment and there is alot of ground work for me to cover if I want a job with the DPI.
The lions club had a community BBQ sausage sizzle in May at M'ville, I'll propose we support another and do a fund raiser, which Helen is also happy to discuss further. I hereby pledge my $50 towards a M'ville BBQ, ask all your friends, perhaps admin might consider displaying a total pledge of donations towards a 'Vic cruise - OH BBQ community fire appeal' if others are keen on the idea. Helen and I agreed that the visitors would be expected to pay, while the locals could get it for free.
There is an art show over the same weekend, visitor entry is $2, any artists here?? "30 Oct 2009 - 02 Nov 2009 Marysville Art show is on again this year- to be held in the Taggerty Hall. Opening at 7.30 on Friday 30th October. Contact Andrew on 5963 4441 for more details"
If you want to volunteer at Marysville, I'm advised by the M'ville info centre its best to contact the community hub at Marysville, I'll find the phone number and post back here ASAP.
We should also consider advertising the oldholden cruise 'meet at Marysville' by sending event details here: http://marysville.vi... be good way to attract tourists.
The state and federal governments purchased the car museum a couple of weeks ago, which I found out today hasn't been open to the public for 2 years and being one of the largest town buildings to have escaped the fire it's going to be turned into a "shop and restaurant hub in the short term, with a large outdoor screen and entertainment area outside". It slipped my mind to ask Helen about the museum conversion, I suggest you follow up on the possibility of having a final open day for the 31st Oct, for either the public or just a private tour, once again you'll need to determine when the museum is actually getting converted into a local community resource.
Well, that's it from me.

It would be a fitting final run. What's the thought on accomodation? Every man (or woman) for themselves?

Hi tim there will be a HT two HR’s, two EH’s meeting and leaving Mulgrave (SE suburbs) to meet everyone at Healsville.
We are the Steel bumpers car club, a group of young guys that cruise.
There is a slight possibility we may bring a HD and another HR along with us. We would be happy to create a convoy.
This event is looking great keep it up.

I'm a definate to attend the cruise, I'll probably leave the valley at about 10.30 so if anyone else is coming from gippsland feel free to tag along.
For anyone attending you should really try to get down to pakenham for the PICNIC. I've been a few times and it's a great event.
Picnic details,
Pakenham Vic.
The 17th PICNIC
30-31st October - 1st November 2009
Kustoms Of Australia is proud to present the PICNIC for your enjoyment, one of the most entertaining and successful events in the world.
The PICNIC attracts more entries than any other rod event in Australia mainly because the organisers understand what rod & kustom enthusiasts expect for their enjoyment, and work tirelessly to achieve the end results that have brought so much happiness to enthusiasts over the past 17 years. The sole aim of the event is to promote the fun in rodding!
The party starts on Friday with a get together, BBQ, Shop tour, and Bench racing session at John's Rod & Custom in Berwick. Saturday morning a cruise is organised to depart Sandown Park and proceed to Pakenham Racecourse, followed later in the evening by the annual Cruisin' of the Main drag, and Rockabilly Dance!
There will be heaps of activities taking place at Pakenham Racecourse throughout Saturday and Sunday, with over a dozen of the best Rockabilly bands in the scene performing for your enjoyment, not hundreds... but kewl rides numbering in their thousands that will converge from all over Australia to register their presence, huge Model Car show, Kustom Kulture Exhibition, Lowrider bikes, Mini rods, Lifestyle trade stands, etc.

Davequeymads wife here.
i am after all the number of the people who are attending this cruise especially those who are looking at having tea in marysville. a lot you you have said you are coming some defenats but saying that you may have said it back in june and things may have changed by now which is understandable but if i can get some idea of how many will be coming and where we will be meeting you would good. some people have organised to meet up at certain points i will try and go through all the post and summerise what has been arranged. i did ask in another thread what people would prefer for tea but didn't seem to get a response so i am thinking it is best if we just order our own meals off the board i will just book the table/s for the amount needed. i was hoping to ring the lady to tell her the numbers tomorrow to give them sometime to be ready seeings it is only 18 days till we are doing this cruise...
as i said i will go through all the post in this thread and the other summerise what is going on and i will put a post up. in it i will include what the go is for the day and a list of all those who said they are coming and the numbers if it is wrong came you please let me know asap. thanks

poll ducks
THANKS
The poll is to help davequeymad work out who is doing what for the vic cruise, particularly dinner on the 31st oct, should make the task a little less time consuming.
MARYSVILLE EVENT: Marysville Annual Duck race on NOV 1st
The duck race is being run on the Sunday afternoon (1st Nov) which might not sit well with the cruise itinerary, particularly if the majority of the people attending the cruise are not staying overnight and the majority leave on the 31st of oct. Travis from the District Cricket club, whom is involved with the duck race along with the Marysville bakery, mentioned there will be around 800 - 1000 fake yellow ducks that will race in the water, which Travis informed me is pretty much right at Gallipoli park and there is a large net at the finish line to help capture and collect the ducks at the end of the race.
The ducks will be numbered and are already for sale at present, I understand individual purchases must be made in person through either Travis (0409 008 716) or Sue Glee at the Marysville Bakery (5963 3477 or sueglee@bigpond.com). Sue mentioned she is willing to set aside a group order of duck entries, then accept payment upon arrival at Marysville and would need to be contacted accordingly, however available ducks are dwindling.

A couple of guys have dropped out, and I was mainly going to B'Park to meet them, and cruise with them, then turn off before Healesville and head home (I have some other stuff to do late arvo). I won't make it to Healesville or Mary's and back in time.
So at this late stage, I'm gonna drop out of the cruise. Sorry Dave, (Dave's Wife) Steptoe, and anyone else who has organised things (Jesse, etc). Hope you's have a good time, and we'll see you next time.

yes you will have to come thru here to get to Healesville (20 mins) but what time?, I assume you will use the Ferntree gully Rd, then Dorset, (via commercial rd, then Boronia Rd, making your way left, then right at the roundabouts then towards Liverpool Rd, onto Cantebery Rd, becomes Swansea then Lilydale. It should take about 30 mins from Brandon Park to Lilydale.
