Cam change with engine still in car?

Hey guys, Just wondering if it's possible to do a cam, lifters and timing chain swap on a HJ Statesman without pulling the engine?
Thanks for any advice.

It is possible but you'll need to loosen the sump to get the timing cover off. A bit of care and some decent sealant will be needed to seal it back up.

I recon you would have to remove your radiator and maybe air con evaporator to do a cam change πŸ€”

My experience with all engines is, once you need to work the bottom end, pull it out and use an engine stand. You need to loosen the sump to get the front cover off and as a result, it's just plain lucky it doesn't leak oil once re=assembled with the original gasket. It can also be a good chance to replace front and rear seals and generally refresh things there too.Do it right the first time.

If your project doesn't work, look for the part you didn't think was important.

Thanks, it looks like I may end up doing an engine refresh, so out she will come. Will make things a lot easier with it on an engine stand.

the memory isn't good but I remember jacking the motor off the mounts so the cam would clear the radiator support to get it out, cant remember if it was a 6 or v8 we had the radiator out everytime since then we took the motor out of the h series and painted it.
