thoughts? what do you think? here is the same car sold at auction in 2016 for $26500 in Sydney and 2 years later for $18000 in Melbourne...looks like it's in same condition...

Andrew, I agree that prices seem to be dropping, i dont have any real examples, but lately i've been seeing cars for a lower price than i would have expected. and realistically high prices cant last for ever. maybe the talk of electric cars and no fuel available in the future is starting to make people wary? who knows,

Seems like a good buy at $18,000 considering what a lot of sellers are asking for older cars (of all makes) bargains seem few and fare between these days

I think everyone is afraid to spend money at this time, not knowing what down the track,
But at the same time everyone wants a classic old car that reminds them of their childhood or happy days gone by.
I must admit some prices are a little far fetched, But you are right prices are starting to drop.
Who knows after tonight’s “power ball 80 mill”
I just might get that HK Monaro and GTHO side by in the shed,
I’d have to park my HJ Prem in the middle to make them both look good tho 😆😆😆😆😆😆

you can put whatever price you want on a car
that doesnt mean thats what your going to get
they are all only worth what someone is willing to pay....
you just need to find the right person

and that's why actual sale prices are the only real guide...this particular one was interesting as its the exact same car sold under same auction conditions..over the 2 years it dropped in price by about 30%...was wondering what other's actual observations may have been...not interested in what people advertise for...some people on ebay are trying to sell $4 ooshies for $2000...one person advertises and then all the other sheep think their's is worth that as well..it's a strange thing pricing...authenticity and rarity seem to be the driving factors re perceived value

I think the combination of older owners getting rid of toys they can't look after as they age, combined with a tightening economy means prices are generally probably headed down. A good mate was looking at a HR wagon a few weeks back. (Mainly to relive his glory days of surf trips I think.) When I asked him why buy a HR now? (He's in his mid/late 40's) his main reason was that it would be an investment prospect as well. I gave him the above reasons why that might not be a great investment. He hasn't bought.
(I think he will buy though, but wait for a bargain.)
Just my thoughts though,
Alby

Nothing to do with the cars themselves.
Everything to do with the economy which is stuffed.
Interest rates heading to zero might be good for home buyers or property investors, but self funded retirees depending on a bit of bank interest are slowing their spending accordingly, and these retirees were very much up there as buyers of the older cars over the past 15 years-20 years.
Some of the cars are selling but only if the price is considered reasonable.
I was at the Just 8's car show at Currimundi last weekend and there was a customised FJ V8 ute for sale, no price, but very much a one off vehicle, so may take a while to sell.
On another note there was an FB EK on Gumtree week or so back for $5000

Well, I was just told a few days ago, that my HG is worth a small fortune, as the factory has closed down and they are not making them anymore. "They haven't made these since 1971, you wally!"
