Charged up

Hey guys and girls

Took the 18month to the playground in the panno today and noticed the battery gauge sitting on full full
When I turned the headlights on and was sitting at the lights it dipped a tiny bit ( see pic )
Pretty sure something isnโ€™t right here
Any ideas wat?

If you are sitting at the lights your brake lights would also be on and a small voltage drop is normal with both headlights and brake lights on at idle. Nice looking Van BTW. The colder weather we are having at the moment in Perth would also exacerbate/increase the voltage drop as batteries don't like the cold and the car might also idle at slightly lower rpm.

When I had a regulator fail, the low RPM voltage was OK.

It was when the revs came up that the voltage went high.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

It should read:
Ignition on - approx 12.5V
Idle - approx 13.8V
Idle up (2000 rpm) - approx 14.2V But no more.

So just got a chance to have a quick check and 12.85v before starting
13.1 when idleing
14.3 when reving at about 2-3thou
????

So kingswood I run a separate oil pressure gauge so internal gauge is disconnected๐Ÿ‘
Also I have noticed my temp gauge is a bit out at the same time
Could this have something to do with it?

Can the dash volt meter become uncalibrated all of a sudden
Could a bad earth be causing all of this?
I am happy to believe it is the voltage reg as it is easy to fix but itโ€™s not adding up to me atm
The alternator is one of those chrome 80a ones on a Gilmore drive
I seem to remember it being cheepish but itโ€™s about 5000 KLM old

Thanks for all the input btw

You need to run a amp meter on each wire but my problem was the resister wire they have two that l know off there usually black thick soft wires if my memory serves me correctly they run in between the gauges .you would have to study a wiring diagram to find them ,don't know if that's your problem .cheers

for the gauges PCB should be 10V constant on WB - so maybe similar for HZ but should be a fixed value...so if not correct voltage it could be why your gauges are not reading correctly...the voltages you posted above all look good...worth checking the solder joints as well on the board..you can get a dry joint...

Andrew

I agree about the voltages.

The voltmeter bypasses the stabilizer and reads the battery voltage directly.

I'm thinking he has a burned primary feed ...

http://holdenpaedia....

The voltage does not make it to the dash.
