New toy.

Bought myself a new toy. I wanted a runaround to drive to work and tow my kayak trailer. I've quietly wanted a little 4x4 like this for years.
It's a 2 litre 4x4 auto with cold air, power everything (it all works). 180,000km, not much for 17 years. A woman at work is going around Australia and was told she couldn't tow it behind her motor home.
She offered it to me for $1600 because it smells of burnt oil when it gets hot. A new rocker gasket will stop the oil weeping onto the exhaust manifold. That is it's only fault. It doesn't leave any oil at on the ground. It's parked on the pavers, I'd be dead by now if it did.
The headlights were faded. I very nearly bought a $50 repair kit. I thought I'd try the Turtle wax I've had in the shed for years first. I gave them a polish with No 3 cutting polish and a micro fibre cloth, then buffed with another MF cloth, then repeated the process with No 1 polish. It took 30 mins and they look virtually new.
You have to have a win sometimes.

Bargain David
I just buff the head lights on a Toyota Camry and came up like new for the old fella, used a buff machine with a variable speed setting, numbers 2 buff compounds and them polished with a platinum polish, the old couple were stoked, they thought they were going to have to buy NEW headlights, job done and the old bloke had a scotch or 2 with me after the job done
Doesn’t have to drive far lives just out the back fence lol,
IF you don’t have a buff machine with a variable speed DONT use a grinder or a cordless drill, you will get a flat spot and burn the plastic headlights

Cool little car David have fun with that one mate

Good on you for helping the oldies.
Not many people would take the time to help them these days.

Why couldn't she tow behind motor home? See it all the time with appropriate set up. As for headlights a mate was selling Merc van and detailer told him that WD40 was the go for clearing lens and yes it does work I tried it on VZ headlight.

I am sure she was lied to, or she spoke to someone who had no idea, because I saw one of them towed behind a motor home up here on the Sunny Coast last Friday.
Actually a mate told me(yea I know) that the Suzi were the only one able to be towed on an A Bar, although here in Qld, I believed the A Bar is not legal.
We used them to tow cars in the 60's and 70's but you had to be careful in tight spots because in tight slow turns, the tow car wanted to go one way and the towed car wanted to go the other way.
Don't know if they have improved the set up.
We made all our own A Bars so they was nothing fancy about them.

NTH Qld in the “Tourist Season” has motor homes with A frams up and down the Hwy between Cairns and Port Douglas, it’s a windy cost road,

“If it’s called Tourist Season, why can’t we shoot them” 🤔

Nice garden David, that Frangipani's a bewdy. Might have to turn it 180deg so it leans the other way for a while.
Nice ride too, good little runabout. (-:

A mate gave me a cutting when he trimmed his tree.
It's the only deep red Frangipanni I've ever seen.
I can't turn it around, the Suzuki wouldn't fit. LOL.

I must say I don’t think I’ve seen a deep red colour one ? Lots of pink around and golden Wattel trees around my area and yes a few older residents in my area that always lend a hand for others.
Most of them know I’m a fifo worker and we have a good friendly little neighbors hood watch, retired police man 2 door up and ya wouldn’t pick the old bloke for 70 he still goes for his morning run ex ADF

Show the pic of your new toy to my wife and her words that’s a bargain cheaper to go to the shops than the old Holden and not having people all over it with finger prints

And it will take less time to go the shops.
I won't be pulled up by people who once owned an EH and then get told about how great a car it was and how nice it is to see an original old car. If they catch me at a weak moment I sometimes tell them the only original parts are the door handles.
I'don't mind talking to them. An old car seems to bring out the best in people who otherwise wouldn't talk to you.

I always believed that you just put the transfer case in Neutral and you were good to go.
I also thought she had been talking to someone who had no idea, but they may have been right.
I had a look in the owners handbook and it's very specific about towing.
Flat towing must be done in second gear (manual) or Drive, with the transfer case in Neutral.
The catch is, you must stop every 300km and then drive the car for at least 1 minute in second or Drive to distribute oil through the transfer case or it will be damaged.
So, on a long run at every pee/coffee stop you would have to unhitch the 4X4 and drive it around for a minute then hitch it up again. Makes a light car trailer look like a good idea.
There are more specific instructions if you have it on a dolly. Eg, front wheels on a dolly: No more than 8okm at no more than 50kph.
I wonder how many grey nomads are slowly destroying their transfer case?
