Not Holden but a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

My boss has a 4yo Mazda CX5 diesel with 115000 on the clock, it went into limp mode & within a few hundred metres it had started crapping itself & pretty much gave up the goast.
He contacted Mazda & arranged for it to be dropped off at a local dealer, upon dropping off the car the Manager that had spoken to had admitted that were aware of an issue regarding the "oil pump" being faulty & cloggs up depriving the engine of oil pressure.
This has resulted in a new "long engine" at the cost of 20k! & after going back & forth for the last 3 week's Mazda has agreed to fit the bill.

Was just chatting with my local mechanic yesterday. He was saying how not much is actually repaired in new cars these days. It is replaced. In fact newer cars have parts designed to be replaced not repaired (such as starter motors etc..) Most new cars are so complicated that repairs outside of the warranty period won't justify the the value of the car.
Built in obsolescence.
Scary times ahead for those of us who prefer to maintain a solid older car rather than trade it in.

Of course our OH's don't suffer from this problem.

Modern car manufacturers won't make the mistake of making cars to last as they did back in the day of our Old Holdens.

The fumes a new car interior puts off when baked in the sun isn't good for you as well .so cars will have use by dates the way things are going as well.

yesterday I replaced the starter motor on VZ , has over 500k on clock so no point spending big , Bosch at Repco $500 , generic brand at Repco $218 , Ebay special $87 so went the latter of course. Commodore forums have multiple tutorials on this task making it sound easy, ranging from front on ramps with under car and under bonnet action to car on ground all under bonnet action. I have the luxury of a hoist but it was impossible to pull starter out without removing lower heat shield on exhaust manifold which despite only being 3 bolts ( in impossible places ) took forever to remove and replace and required multiple universal socket joints and language that even I had not heard before! All in and working in time for beer o'clock so turned out a good day !.
