Does it use a ballast resistor for the coil..?

If so, then the resistor is open circuit (rooted).

I have had the same problem, both times it was a crook switch. I gave up trying to find a good one, so I have a "start" pushbutton hooked up under the dash. There is no ballast resistor in the circuit.
