1978 VB Commodore - What Petrol to use

Hi there,

Just bought a 1978 VB Commodore 3.3 litre (auto) and was wondering what petrol to use without causing any damage to the motor?

you can use unleaded but use a additive with it unless the heads had hardened seats done to it
then you can use unleaded with no additive needed

Whatever you do don’t use E10 - the ethanol will strip any lead in your tank and block your fuel filter plus it’s not suitable for your VB. Personally I use 95 in my old Holden with a upper cylinder lubricant - the bare minimum I’d use is 91 but I find I get better running and economy with 95

The bowser with highest octane.
I wont even use the other crap for washing parts, leaves them too oily.

"Junk is something you throw out 3 weeks before you need it"

if its a Sunday car and not driven much Id beware of putting too much 98 in it ,98 seams to go off too quickly. I base that on leaving it sit in the tin for 2 or 3 weeks then putting it in the boys motor bikes.

Whats wrong with Melbourne drug addicts sleeping all over the footpath trying to scab money?

I put Woolworths 98 in the EH for a long time because they were just up the street and the only local garage with 98. If I didn't use it for a while it just felt down on power and not happy until I filled it up again.
The local Shell got 98 six months ago so I switched to them and the car seems a lot happier now.

Woolworths is Caltex for now. They will be BP in about 12 months.
Our Woolworths Caltex has had 98 since it opened.

Use any premium with a lead replacement additive if the heads haven’t had harden valve seats done, if your not using the car regularly add a fuel stabiliser
