Class is in...

Righto, new group of year 10s started this week. Time for some engine rebuilds. A mate has asked for a fresh Red for his fork lift. A 202 and a couple of 161s are being torn down. Also, looking at building a basic spare speedway Red 6. Anyone used a Nason cam??. This will be a reeeeeeeaaaaalll budget build!

used heaps of them for basic stuff

all of the popular engines' cams with similar figures from various retailers (they might fudge a degree or 2 and a few thou on lift to make them appear different) are all made by the bucketload by cnc grinders in the states. its then up to who can put the fanciest box around them and charge the most money for them that wins.

feel free to email me if you want some GOOD prices for your build - nasons only sell to reconditioners, anyone selling these to you thats not nasons directly is marking them up, and we all know that some mark up more than others.

We could do this for a few people here and could have a chat. I can do up a super fancy gif (maybe "as seen on TV" one) and just use everyone elses boxes. BTW..FYI..That hyundia water pump started squeaking the week it was installed but I thought we had better things to do!

Thanks Ben๐Ÿ‘.. I used them a fair bit in the trade too.....lost count of the number of timing chains I put 18rc Toyotaโ€™s!!, most of these were Nason. One of my students fitted a Nason cam to his HQ 202. I will talk with our local engine rebuilder, while he mite put a bit of a mark up on it, donโ€™t recon it would be much..
If this was an all out race engine I would use a Wade, Clive or Crow. But itโ€™s budget with a capital B. Cheap and cheerful ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

What about a Waggot cam?
They are at Alstonville, NSW and still do their own grinding as far as I know.

Old is good.

you wont be using a wade, they closed down probably a good 4 years ago now
clive got all their masters

have used clive a handful of times, very good stuff, great to deal with, can get oddball stuff the others cant

had one customer supplied me a waggot 104 to put in his torana 202, soon as i pulled it out of the box i commented how thin it was in the core. im talking the diameter of your little finger here...
if it was mine, it would have been sent back, but this guy said to use it. went well, power band like a lightswitch at 4000rpm, spun the wheels even in 5th gear (hard old 205/13's) he didnt drive it much, maybe 300-400km or so and he calls me saying its running rough - told him to check under the tappet cover and sure enough its broken up the back at the third journal.

he called waggots, they palmed him off. i also called on his behalf, they told me i must have fitted the cam bearings wrong...

called clive for his suggestion on a replacement, he had a good laugh when i told him about the cam bearings comment from waggots.
anyway he supplied - on paper its very similar but it works soooo much better, power there from any revs, not peaky like the waggot - much more low end torque despite being slightly more duration at 050" - still pulls as hard over 7000 - owner is very happy.

Iโ€™ve not used a Clive...yet. But he did one for a speedway mate some years back, when he switched to an Ecotec (a new engine back then). Very nice...I got to drive it once, I liked it๐Ÿ‘. The little 192 in my (now sons,) VL speedway car is a Wade....mind you the engine was put together 17 years ago!. It works, but a narrow power band, up in the rev range. It makes more hp than my old crow hydraulic. But the crow would pull from waaaaayyy down low. When/if we build another engine, I may change the cam.
