Silvolite Pistons

Hi guys, does anyone here have any experience with or opinions on Silvolite brand pistons? I've noticed they are being sold in common overbore sizes for 186s on ebay as of late. Seller says "manufactured in America (Mexico) by Silvolite", I never knew Mexico was part of the USA, I wonder if The Donald knows?

Mexico is part of North America, as is Canada.

Brazil & Argentina are part of South America. These 2 continents make up the Americas, the USA is only a part of North America.

In short America is NOT ONLY the USA.

Ive had a set in my 307 for about 5-6 years, only a crusier. They were in a master rebuild kit I got from the U.S. Had no issues with them .👍

used a few sets of these over the past few years, being a reconditioner, i get to see a lot of different brands, they are much better than some of the other pistons being sold for 186's.

some pistons have wildly varying sizes, these silvo-lite have all been very good - speed pro are one of the worst brands i have seen for size - the last set i did for a trade customer was for an amc 360, the piston to bore clearance was supposed to be 001" (one thou) one piston in the set was almost 2 thou smaller than the rest. some blokes give the machine shop one piston to measure, and assume all are the same. can you imagine the results if by chance, the small piston was given to the shop? not pretty. thats if you could even get the others in the bore!

heres a tip for anyone doing an engine. anytime you plan to get a block bored, take the shop ALL of your pistons. if they say they dont need them all, find another shop. it will work out for the best in the long run.

if anyone is interested in buying any of these pistons and rings for a 186, feel free to contact me as i can beat current ebay pricing by a fair bit.

Thanks for the tip Ben.
Do you have any recommendation for a supplier of a good rebuild kit for a 225 Slant Six

bryan - let me know what you want exactly, and sizes if you know yet.

i have some slant stuff here at home, so if you wanted for example, i could have a set of rods resized, with new bolts if required, and fit your new pistons to them. these could then be couriered to you, and if you didnt want to buy the rods you could then send me your old ones back. if that helps.

i think i still have a set of the stainless 1.71/1.44 oversized valves in stock, also. did a few of these heads about 5-6 years ago and had good feedback from the customers.

Thanks Ben. Looking to reco a Slant in the near future, wasn't overly happy with the engine rebuilder who did the last one for me.
