Park Pawl advice needed for HJ Trimatic transmission

Hi I need advice on my park pawl.
It's a HJ 253, Trimatic.
I have previously removed and reinstalled the extension housing and since then have not been able to get it to engage into Park. Prior to this extension housing reinstall the transmission worked fine.

Forums suggest the Park pawl is the issue.

With both rear wheels jacked up i can rotate the tailshaft and get the park pawl to lock... but after driving it however, it will not shift into park.

Have tried to adjust selector to be in the optimal position.

Any advice would be most appreciated before i remove the housing again.
Thanks.

if you are confident with the selector adjustment it sounds like you will need to remove the housing again and see what's going on inside...was any of the mechanism removed at all? If so could anything have been incorrectly installed?

Andrew

The park pawl may have been twisted to one side.

If it worked before you removed the tailshaft housing, that's likely.

Thanks Andrew, Yes the park pawl had to be reinstalled as the pawl was bumped out of place. It seemed to be secure when placed back, but it is possible it was knocked when the extension housing was reinstalled. Sounds like I will need to open it up again...

Just an update, with a lot more patience i was able to get it engaging consistantly after spending a lot o time adjusting the linkages to the shifter.
