Commodore VP Didn't matter what was in the range, as soon as they put rear-wheel spats onto the Calais, the VP became a legitimate target for ridicule and derision.

yes with the passage of time our views change..I remember back in very early 89, my girlfriend at the time was a sales rep and received a brand new VN v6 wagon...I'd had HT (186), HX (202), Hz (253) and HZ (308) by then - probably can see a trend there searching for more power...and boy when we took the VN for a drive up through the hills I just floored it and couldn't believe how hard it went and how economical it was...I remember some bloke behind me with an earlier V8 falcon and he didn't have a chance..my work car was an 87 XF Falcon wagon (3.3) and it was the biggest sludge box I've ever driven....actually that's not true the worst ever performing cars I've driven or been in was a mates 186 HR prem powerglide and another's HQ 173 Belmont auto....both slugged along so badly they were just an embarrassment..neither could keep up with my mum's Datsun 120Y....now I couldn't care less about performance in older cars...driving around in a 161...interesting VTs were the highest production Holden following HQ...probably helped by the hideous AU Falcon ....now that was a shocker

What does it becoming a 'scabs car' have anything to do with how good it is though? I know that it as with pretty much any low value average condition Holden or Ford has become primarily a car for feral bogan types. My daily driver is a fairly clean VT Berlina with 200 thousand kms on it, I could easily replace it with something newer but I don't feel the need to, not going to change a perfectly comfortable and reliable vehicle because of feral scum or people with their heads too far up their middle class arses.

yep seems a trend with high selling popular cars as they reach the high teens 20 year mark...it was the same with HRs and HQs where I lived....between 20 and 30 years they reach their lowest point and most have an unceremonious end....and those that survive 30 years relatively in tact come out the other end as a collectible classic fondly looked on through rose coloured glasses and increase in value...

A mate had a 186 HR wagon. It chewed fuel and was a real slug. It probably didnt help that we tuned it ourselves. My first HT was pretty good on fuel but i reckon it must have been a heavier car so go figure. Ive got a HT 308 ATM and i agree, im not chasing performance / handling etc like I used to when younger. I just love cruising in it. (I must be getting old)

VN's
Have you seen the price of VN SS's these days, don't think there's a lot of "scabs" that can afford one lol.
VE's will be on that list soon enough, there was over 500,000 made.
Cheers
