Fitting a clutch fan to 308

Hi guys

So I'm going to fit a clutch fan to my 308 it originally had a fixed fan on it with a spacer
So my question is, do you get rid of the spacer and use shorter bolts?
As there is no way I can put the bolts through the cluth fan due to the length of them(required for the spacer)

I've had 3 x 308s with clutch (viscous coupling) fans and they haven't had spacers...HZ and WB...all had shrouds...my advice is to make sure the clutch works properly...sometimes they don't and the fan freewheels at higher revs...resulting in overheating in some conditions
