Rear axel shaft.

Hi guys. I'm a new member from South Africa. I have a 1974 Chevy ElCamino or Holden HQ ute. I removed my right rear axel shaft as it was leaking. The ElCamino has the Salisbury Diff and the axel shafts have the fine splines. Seen that I have the shafts out I want to put new bearings and seals on. Can you maybe tell me how far I must press the retaining ring onto the shaft as I cant find this info anywhere. Thanks.
Kyle.

Welcome to forum mate...

You will need a press to get the bearing and the collar off and on.

I was taught to always chop the collar with a hammer and cold chisel due to the fact you are actually trying to press off both the collar and bearing at the same time which puts an awful amount of stress on the press.
My son decided to press both off a 9" axle and when it let go, the whole shed shook, scared the bejeesus out of him.
