From the factory, the hinge with the spring has one brass bush opposite the spring with the bush nearest the spring being plastic (now nylon). The other hinge (non spring) has plastic bushes in both holes. The brass bush in the spring hinge is the load bearing bush. You can run brass in all holes but it is overkill.
It is the same with rear door hinges also.

Also Kev, the wheel that locks the door open should have little or no slop in it. Check it by removing the spring, that takes the load off it. If your bushes are shot, I reckon the wheel will have alot of slop in it.

Yeah mate you are on the button !!seem's either find parts ,or new hinges! Amazing how such a small amount of movement at the pin can equate to so much at the back of the door !!

You can buy new bushes and pins. New hinges will set you back quite a dollar. I haven't looked at them for quality, so I don't know how well they are made. I reco the genuine hinges because you can't beat the genuine item. You're right about how much difference a small movement can make on gaps. You'll never get your gaps with sloppy hinges. Anyhow, good luck with them.
