Not really old Holden related, but I wanted to check in and see what everyone was up to.

Its been ages since I have been on here. A mate recently purchased an RA28 Celica and has recruited me to build it. Fair amount of Rust, but im starting on the Worst Panel First (Door) - I figure if i can save it then the rest will be easy.

I bought a little $400 3 in 1 Welder on Ebay, and got some Gas and .6 wire, and must say im impressed how good it is to work with. Costs me $100 a year to rent the Gas, and makes gasless look like a joke.

So far we have stripped the car, starting taking the paint back, and decided that only milk and juice come in 2L... We are looking at a 4L toyota V8 for it (its on the limit of whats allowable under VSB Rules, and the engines are really light).

In other news, im FINALLY getting my man cave, Slab goes down this weekend, fed up with dealing with Surveyors and Councils and engineers.

Comments

yes i agree, the difference between gas and gasless is like chalk and cheese, i have both, the gasless is good if i need a welder on the job site, throw it in the ute no need for bottles etc
the gas one is for the more fidley jobs and where i need a better finish
i tend to keep the gas one at home, and the gasless at the shed
you can actually get a resonable weld with gasless if you get it set up right

One of the best looking Japanese cars ever made that model Celica.

I found gasless fine on thicker gauge metal, but on things like panel skins, even with the amps turned right down it would just get too hot and warp, or blow through.

It is a nice looking car, and there arent many left. We have no idea what colour to paint her. I suggested blackwatch green, but my mate isnt keen.

I worked with a bloke that had one of those Mustang Celicas.

He had it done up nice.
