This is the Monaro I spotted in a suburban Brisbane front yard the other day...
have seen a lot worse sell for big money
It looks like the Earth is re-claiming it. Better be quick..!
yes its slowly sinking back into the earth LOL
I know where it is, it's been there at least 20 years if my memory is correct, there used to be a sign near it in big red letters Not For Sale, I'd say he used to get sick of everyone wanting to buy it. I do remember someone saying that the car had sentimental value to the owner, when they had stopped to see if was for sale, and it would never be sold.
expensive yard art - i can understand the sentimentality, maybe his sons car and he died etc.
Yeah his son died, and it was his car. Not for sale, cant blame him. Nice tribute if you ask me.
Its hard to accept but if its someone's property then they can do what they want. There was talk that the producers of the new Dunkirk movie had bought a WW2 Bf109 for $5m and planned to crash it to make the movie more realistic (I don't think they went ahead).
I have a relative who still owns his first car he bought nearly 40 years ago. Its a HK Monaro non GTS with its original 307. Just like the one in the picture its rotting away in his back yard because its sentimental and he and his son are "gonna do it up one day". Breaks my heart but when I go round there I don't even mention it anymore.
computer graphics are so real these days it would be cheaper and better looking to graphic it.
checkout some of the IL 2 ww2 game vids on utub. pretty good for a little internet game. movies can afford good stuff.
Looks like they didn't crash the (Spanish) 109, but they used RC models instead of just cg
yeah mate I also know that one has since been shoved into front yard as was beside the house for many many years. There is another one not very far from there also, think he has FJ as well?
There used to be an old FC sedan that was in a back yard at Rocklea under a tree, again the old guy refused to sell, and the tree grew and pretty much covered the car, then one day last year I drove past and the tree had been chopped down, and the remains of the FC was going to Sims for scrap, there was very little left, shame really.
not quite sure I really understand - if I had something that had such sentimental value to me - I would at least attempt to preserve it in some way and not let it fester and decay. You could separate it from the ground, throw something over the seats and dash, wind up the windows - having it rot and decay in your front yard to help improve the value of your area has a more symbolic aspect to it in my view....
I think they believe that if they sell it they lose touch with that person in there life that somehow the car was involved with. I don't get it myself, I believe if you have there memory, than that should be with you forever rather than seeing that item slowly rot away in front of you, but maybe they can't see it decaying in front of them.
I know the guy and that car has been sitting there since the days that you would have had to pay a tow truck to take it to scrap. If you hate this type of thing happening I know of a few VNs that need your help.
It is only when they become valuable that everyone jumps up and down, if that was a HB Torana no one would give a toss, in fact most would say that that is all it deserved (I would not).
He has a good reason for not selling and does not have to justify it to any of you.
And as for not keeping sentimental things, you have the memories, I have some stuff here from my son when he was killed and I will NEVER throw it out, and until you have been through the same do not tell me to "move on".
i understand hanging onto things for sentimental reasons
My folks died in tragic circumstances over 20 yrs ago an di still have stuff here that I will never part with, but I wouldn't leave it out the front to rot either..
i know where there is another couple of monaros just a few blocks from me, been there at least 15 yrs i know of, same deal wont sell as he will do them up one day
i guess each to their own,
still sad to see...
Yer l know off a few HQ,s sedans an a two door atleast the two door has got a cover on it under a tree etc l remember them monaro,s selling for $400 bucks toranas couldn't get $500 for a LH sedan etc seen a few monaros chucked in the compacter with full interiors.statsmans stripped for vans an Utes over an over
Life is too brief to build ya own time machine
With out old Aussie products cheers.
I've been told that HK's don't rust...What gives Al.
Funny thing is if he whacked this on Ebay he'd get good coin, remember that Splitty Kombie a few weeks back.
The HK Monaro rusted bad as you can see, similar to HRs.Although the HK surfwagon kingswood model was different,no trouble with rust in them!...;)
It's a common trait. HK = rust.. Period.
I thought that's what HR stands for, HR= Heavily Rusted???
Honestly Rustrfree. True story..
not buying that story!...:)
back in about 2005 a mate was storing a hk shell in his yard, it had been stripped to bare metal and been left to rust. bear in mind this was metres from the beach at tweed heads...
the owner paid $200 for it, reckoned he was going to turn it into a race car. i laughed and laughed, along with my mate that was storing it.
he sat on it until the 2007 boom, all of a sudden he decided to sell it and last i heard, that bloody rusted out shell got $5000!!
who had the last laugh?? sure wasnt me!!
I once pulled an FJ special off of Stradbroke island, was stored about 200 mt from the beach, only bough tit for the special trims, didn't bother even cleaning the 2 inches of sand out of it until I sold the shell turns out it didn't have a spec of rust anywhere.
that probably the ne car I regret selling, it had Hot Grey motor 4 speed box and lots of other go fast gear, I reckon someone was turning it into a speedway car, the guy that bought it go tit running before he loaded it up, I was spewin, i never even really looked at it as i figured it would be totally rusted, hanging panels were all stuffed but actual shell was mint
another mate had a hj ute, rusty everywhere and bogged up to pass rego - i used to borrow it regularly - if it rained, it leaked that bad your shoes got wet - yet it had original floorpans in good nick! go figure...
