Is there a Doctor in the house?

Image:

Dr Shanebo, how's it look?
I pulled the rooflining from my VP to fix it. It was like every other Commonbore, it was falling down. Did some googling, gluing, looks OK eh? Hardest part is getting it in and out of the car..

Leave it 48 hours before putting in the car or gravity will undo your good work.

Bryan

I was a nervous-Nellie putting the first dollop of glue on. Thinking, if I stuff it up, I'll need to get a man in to do it for me.

I read that spray adhesive is not strong enough. I used Parfix "Fast Grip" (it was with the car when I bought it). It says "brush or spreader application".
That was the easy bit. I'm doing the hardest bit now, I reckon. Cleaning up the seats where the foam has dropped, leaving sticky crap everywhere. So far, a damp cloth is working..

...is the sticky gooey crap I had to clean up. Luckily a damp cloth cleaned it all up after a careful vacuum, not to push it into the cloth. I've never had to deal with such gooey stuff. Then again, I probably have, just can't remember when it was.
A memo to anyone doing this job: cover your interior before pulling your headlining out.

Great stuff Timbo, now it's tip time.
1,chock wheels.
2, both seats all the way back & fully reclinded.
3, handbrake off & in 1st for auto or 3rd or 5th in a manual.
4,remove any plastics that appear to be in the way & interior light.
Now it's time take it out, but firstly tip 5, cover the trim in plastic to somewhat avoid Timbo's mess.
6, the removal with your good self in the passenger seat you slide the board back towards the rear screen & then you come down in a,forward motion in between the steering wheel & shifter while spinning the front of the board into the passenger foot well & out the though the door in front of the seat. For this you may have to bend the board slightly.
As for cleaning off the too large plastic scrubbing brush & an old vacuum cleaner.
If you were to use new material & go to a trimmer & get 1.5mtrs,for a ute 2 for sedan & 3mtrs in a wagon while there take a large class jar for contact cement about 1/2 to 1 ltr is,enough & if possible spray both surfaces using a a general purpose gun or putty gun on a lowish pressure. I always do two coats of contact & then allow to tact before getting the cook or a mate,to placing the material in place.
Also leave extra to fold over the back.
To refit just slide it back in in reverse.

I wish I'd asked you a week ago Shanebo, that's a great write up ('specially point no.5). It's still sitting on the kitchen table, taking Blue's advice. I'll be putting it in this arvo. It looks grouse, just hope the glue holds!
I'll get after pics later. I should've got before pics, would've been a good Holdenpeadia write-up.

The sigma I did originally had a light weight vinyl. I went to Clark's Rubber and got a similar colour vinyl and a tin of heavy duty glue from them (similar to what you used Tim). The new vinyl was quite heavy but it never dropped/sagged. Only thing was the original had that thin layer of foam that you had fun cleaning up, I didn't put anything between the underside of the vinyl and the roof/board, but any little bit of dag left behind showed up like the proverbial.
CONFESSION TIME: When I did the Corolla, it was a light fleecy material, I thought I'd hand wash it to bring it up like new. After it had dried I refitted it to the board only to find it had shrunk all around by between 1/4-1/2 inch.

Bryan

I glued it straight to the board Bryan, no foam. Yeah I read that, not to wash it, it'll shrink ya duffer.
It's turned out good, it's all done. Cuppla places didn't line up and it sort of shows if you squint, but OK. Helluva lot better than the whole rear section hanging down. I just hope it lasts through the hot summer without sagging..
Pics will follow on the front page a bit later guys, keep an eye out.
