HZ ???? Please help!!

Hi,
I just brought a HZ, what I thought was a GTS Monaro, but after reading here am pretty sure it is a Kingswood so just wanted to know if anyone can confirm what it is I have and also if it is a kingswood done up to be a GTS does anyone have an estimate on value as I hope I have not been ripped (too severly!!!)
So here comes the info...

Model: HZ8WN69
Body: 469661-A
Trim:1930-63C
Paint:56830521
Eng: L32
Trans: M15
GV4

CHASSIS: 8N69RK196966I

There is also this No : BHZ74795A
Year 11/79.

This car has all GTS parts that make it "look" like the real thing so this is the reason I am confused (yes I am female!!)ie Interior (in immacualte condition) Tartan seats, GTS dash, centre console, all body work with spoilers, It has a 308 which I was aware was not the original motor, but the car has only done 97000 original kms. It has been sitting in someones shed for 11 yrs, and there is only one small bit of rust (about the size of a little fingernail) in the rear guard (wheel arch) and that is it. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks..

Thanks to all the anwswers, you have been very helpful, I will send some pics through this arvo as I have to work, so should be back at about 2pm. I would really like an honest estimate of value. Thanks.
The bloke did say it didn't have matching numbers, but I kind of thought he meant as far as the motor went, but wasn't too sure. I wouldn't bother with refund unless it is so much less than what I paid, it looks great I must admit.
Cheers.

help is here

L32= 253 high compression
M15 = Three speed Man
GV4 = 3.08:1
the "A" in the model number is sayin the car was built in Adelaide

Not sure yet..

I will post some pics this arvy and maybe you all can help me with an estimate of value. I was aware the numbers didn't match but thought he meant because of the motor, I guess it just looks so real, .... oh well...I won't be asking for a refund unless I am severly out of pocket.
Thanks,
Sandy.

3 on the tree ?

how many HZ's came out with V8's and a 3 speed manual? I no it was common among early H series but in 1978 you think most new car buyers back then would have preferd the 4speed when buying new or ordering a car from the factory. the white hot speical was 1 of factory odd ball a "HT Kingswood" if my memory is correct, they had a 253 coupled up with a 3speed manual box, if Im wrong about the model Im sure some will corect me lol.

GTS or not...

You would have to be happy with that. Looks like a very clean/honest car.

So it's a Kingswood and not a Monaro or GTS or whatever the HZ was, at least now you wont be a member of the "Anal Retentive Monaro Owners Group"

Reckon I'll duck for cover right about now.

That's a cool car Sandy, I'd be happy to own it. And its value is what it is worth to you, as it appears it is not for sale. Market vale is only applicable when it's on the market. Shout it a set of plates and go cruising.

Shane.

HPEngines

Cool..

Thanks Shane, I am very happy with it, I am glad you like it too, you can see why I was confused about it not being original as it looks so much like it should be haha. I will clean up the rest of the wheels now (as you can see I did the outer rims) give the engine some new plugs and leads and oil change,, then take her down for RWC and rego, and as you say ...go cruisin'!!!

Thanks to Jesse, I will do that and then those who are curious can have a look.

Oh and if I were to ever want to sell (not likely for a long time, if ever) but would I expect to get over the $10 000 mark as this would satisfy my "did I pay too much" question...

hz gts/mock gts

sent you an email. wouldnt suprise me if its a genuine gts that has wrong tags. I have requested a pic of a few diferent things. should be able to work out a bit better once you can reply.

Looks like a very neat GTS/GTS mock! very low KM. Did it come with any service history? old rego papers? Let me know the chassis/vin number on the old rego papers if it did. would be interesting to see if it matches the tags or the chassis.....

Hi Jason

Got your email, sent you a reply, it did not come with any service books or old rego papers at all, but I will get back to you with what I can tomorrow, thanks again for your help.

I have uploaded pics to shed too.

looks fantastic, someone has done a great job with it or as Jason suggested some one has taken the id off and replaced them with Kingswood tags. The only thing I can see is the rub strip down the sides, does it have rear disks? What is the actual chassis number?

GTS or not you will get plenty of looks out driving and Im sure you will enjoy cruising it.

Only reason someone would

Only reason someone would take off GTS ID tags and put on Kingswood tags i think would be if they went out and stole a GTS ,

then they would own it ,with out doing any work other than changing the tags and chassis of a HZ Kingswood 253 3 speed they all ready had ?.

Lets hope thats not the case and they went to the trouble of building up a kingswood to look like a GTS.

sammy21 hz

hi mate is that the orginal colour?
whats the code? whats it called? does anyone here know?
if its as good as it looks or better and has no issues i think 7k-10k would be a good buy
if its all gts except the tags who gives a crapper i say. lucky you i reckon.
cheers

my thoughts were the same as

my thoughts were the same as minight cruiser.no paperwork,no ex rego number,no history and no current rego but i hope your sake it is only a mockup.did you get any ownership papers/revs certificate as most state rego offices will require some proof of ownership for a car worth 10 grand.cheers

Hi all..

Yes it does have rear discs.
I have no idea about paint, sorry, I am not that knowlegdable, but it does look lovely and I can't wait to get it rego'd and on the road. It got plenty of looks just driving it 15mins home, we had trade plates on it.
I will find out the other chassis number at some stage today. It does look as good as in the pics, better really, it does need minor things for RWC ,apparently the bolts have come loose on the chassis rails under the car so my hubby will need to fix that but does this mean anything or is this common, also as the motor has been sitting for 11yrs it will need oil change new plugs/leads and tuning up. And i think shockies at the back, and that should be all. I hope it will be ready in another week or so!!
Thanks all for your input.
Sandy.

HZ GTS

I would scratch a little bit of paint away in hard to see spot to see if the colour has been changed. I'd look for evidence of the id plates being removed and if they match the chassis number.
I think something funny has happend to this car past.

HZ GTS

HZ GTS finished 2/79.

Bogans have more fun.

a revs certificate is 0nly

a revs certificate is 0nly about $15 from dept of fair trading.it shows if any money owing on the car to finance companies or if it has been reported stolen at any time but only for the numbers that are currently on the vehicle and is a handy cheap insurance policy and gives you a legitimate accepted receipt(and security).the only reason i mention it is it saved me spending a lot of money on a ute a few years ago that i bought unreg(it had been sitting in a paddock for 5 years and when i cleaned it up thought it was way too good for the money i paid for it)i got a rev cert done and turned out it had been reported stolen years ago and even the property owner was unaware of its status and was cleaning up the property for sale(was kindly left there by a ex mate for storage!).cheers

HZ mock GTS

As a late 79 HZ Palais White Kingswood built in Adelaide with 253, 3 speed manual and 4 wheel discs, it might have originally been a cop car (same build date as mine, but mine's auto), and turned into a GTS very early in life, probably straight after being bought at auctions. By the time the cops had finished with it, it was probably 1981, maybe 82 and GTS wrecks would have been available at wreckers. This might account for the fact that the whole GTS interior is in such good nick. GTS Front ends and guards could still be bought from Holden so they'd swap straight over and a respray in a more desirable colour was a common mod. However, I think the best reason that it still has the Kingswood tags is because nobody back then gave a crap about tags. I reckon somebody bought the Kingo and a good fresh GTS wreck, swapped all the good GTS bits, painted the Kingo and voila a GTS without aever thinking about swapping tags.

Just a theory...

Carlos

My Shed - HZ cop car
Holdens I've owned

Thanks Carlos...

Thankyou very nuch for your theory, This makes the best sense so far, as we have done REVS checks Aust wide and results are negative for any problems. I have been unable to find any white paint but there is evidence of a respray on a small paint chip on the roof. The tags look to be like they have been there all this time, and the Chassis matches the tag but we are having some trouble with the 5 in the number BHZ74795A as both on the tag and chassis the 5 has been dented which seems very weird but I have tried every combination of numbers from 1 to 9 and still nothing shows up on any revs check. I didn't want to spend $$ on it if it were "stolen" but we also contacted the bloke we brought it from and he swears it is legit, he used to be a car dealer and aquired it from the lady owner during the coarse of his business. All in all, with your explanation, I am feeling alot more comfortable, and look forward to it being registered so I can take the beauty for a drive!!!

BTW...

I forgot to say your car looks cool!! I love that pic of when it was a cop car!!

smick car sammy21

Your best bet might be to contact a local oldholden car club to get an inspection for a price range or valuation on it. You might want to try accessing records held by Holden first, try Holden customer assist on 1800 033 349...it should still be free service. My car doesn't exist apparently (pharr...I've yet to try car clubs though).

Take receipt/s from the purchase of the car to your local vicroads office when they are not busy and try have a chat with the manager to see if they can tell you anything about the cars history. Past registration papers, I'm considering it might not have been registered for 11 yrs, that show license plate numbers might help too.

It would be interesting to know the number of the tyre placard in the glove box at right bottom corner.

Well good luck

Cheers Jesse,

Will see what I can do about getting someone to have a look or Vic roads to help. I will be needing a permit to get it to the roadworthy place next week (hopefully) so I can have a chat with them then, It is still confusing as hubby had a look and can not see any indication of it ever being a manual, so on one hand we think it may be a mockup (very well done!!) but on the other hand it may be the real deal...I guess one day we will know for sure. I'm just happy I didn't get ripped. I will check the glove box tomorow nd let you know if that tyre placard is in there. I don't know what that would mean but I'm sure you will let me know...
Thankyou for your continued help through this tangled mess!!

No placard...

Well had a look and there is no placard in the glovebox at all, not even any trace of one ever being there. Dead end at every turn. I ave emailed Holden with all the details I have, hopefully they may be able to solve the question of genuine or mock. I really couldn't give a crap either way now, but at least it will satisfy my curiosity and place a value on the car either at approx 10k or 20k.....

HZ GTS info from Holden

Sammy, you'll be out of luck with emailing Holden because I've tried that with mine and they responded that they have no information on Adelaide built HZ's. I was really disapointed because I wanted to know what all the factory accessories were for my car, so then I'd know what was done by the dealer and what was done by the Police convertion.

One thing Holden might tell you is that the K in your VIN number (smallest tag) isn't right, but they are actually wrong because the K means it's a 1980 model because it's built after Sep 1979. By the way, yours was built 1041 after mine, that's probably only a week later, and mine was sold on 21 Nov 79.

Wow!!

Thanks for the info Carlos, well looks like you have better info than Holden!! I haven't heard from them yet, but it looks like it was a waste of time emailing them!! Haha my b'day is 21st Nov!! Later year than 79 though but still in the 70's!!So ex cop car it is then, thats cool. Maybe I should start to document the info I am gathering (with everyones help!!) and start a new history book for it??

If we ever need any work done to the exhaust we will be sure to bring it to your business Jesse, as we live in Ballarat.

By the way would anyone happen to know where we might be able to get hold of the bolts and rubbers for the chassis rails that have dropped? We have the front ones but need the back ones. Rare spares can not get any at all.

hi mate the only guy i use for rubbers suspension ect is Rob at (north ringwood auto parts) NRAP heres his link he doe sfreight as well very cheap it is to.

Cheers for the info about the rubbers, the bloke here did get hold of some rubbers, the other fella got it all wrong and they had the parts in stock. They can't get the bolts though, but we should be able to get them from a bolt shop, hopefully.

body to chassis bolts

the bolts are not a standard bolt. I got hold of a NOS one a while back. I have sent it to rare spares and they are in the process of making them.
I should have some good s/h ones here no worries if they would suit you. new ones acording to rares wont be aviableble for a little bit longer.
