2 things

hey all

i have 2 questions for you today:

i have a hq one tonner, the drivers door seems to drop down after being opened and to close it again has to be either held up whilst closing it or be slammed shut. i was told that it had been in a front on collision ( nothing serious) and this could be the cause as the panels would be slightly out of place. but the panels seem to be fine a bit of rust here and there but thats it it doesnt seem out of place.
is this easy to fix?

now second question i have both a hq one tonner and a hq premier sedan. whats a personal favourite for you guys? i have to get rid of one of them but dont nkow which one. they both have pros and cons eg. the ute has a great running gear. 253 5 speed celica box 10 bolt lsd salisburry but it has a rusty shell. the prem has a conked out running gear but a reasonably straight body with rust just around the windows and some in the doors. which one should i keep? which one would you keep?

thanx in advance for any helpful input

brodie

1. It sounds like the hinges are rooted. Replacing them sould sort the doors out.
2. IMHO Tonners are always the better choice. Prems look like crap. They aren't a Kingswood, and they aren't a Statesman. They are just somewhere in the middle.
That is just my opinion though. And you know what they say about opinions.lol.
Cheers.

It sounds like the hinge is stuffed but it could be that your bolts arnt tightened 100%, what happens is since the weight of the door goes off the latch all the weight is distributed to the hinges and it could be causing movement. But i would be inclined to say its the hinges.

As for the car choice i would go with the premier as 1 they are rarer and 2 everyone has a tonner these days, also i for one love HQ premiers (NOT HJ HX HZ).

there's heaps of adjustment in the door hinges, just loosen off the bolts and get a helper to lift the door and tighten the bolts back up, if this doen't work just replace the hinge

if you choose the prem i'd be interested in buying the ute, depending on price and location, i'm in ballarat

it really depends on what you want to do with it
the ute limits the number of passenges you can carry but it is handy if you need to carry things on the back, utes make exellent work cars
with the prem you won't need to worry about how many passenges you can carry but if you need to move anything you have to use a trailer

Well your only real choice is what do you love more, the car or the passengers.
AFAIK passengers just mean more filthy feet on the carpet, more dirty jeans on the seats. And as much as everybody knows better. There is always one bum who wants to eat, drink , or smoke in your car.
The Tonner would save on potential assult charges.lol.
Cheers.

I had a similar problem with my HX recently - it felt like the door dropped when opening, but it was actually just the door lock mechanism gumming up. A little lubrication on the moving parts inside the door fixed it right up.

The hinges have a tube washer/flange. If you support the door and detatch the bottom hinge you can tell if the hinge washer is buggered if it has too much play in it. Maybe you can see if you can remove the pin in the hinge and replace the washer.
I replaced the hinges once and it was a bugger getting the doors back on after I had taken both hinges off. Doors are heavy. If I did it again I would support the door and replace one at a time.
