G'day everyone, hope your all enjoying your weekend. Very soon I'll be fitting this Impco model L to my tonner & want to know if I can mount it like this. Does the top have to be at the top (I know that sounds stupid but I have to ask). If I were to mount it on its side like this I think it would be a lot neater but I can do it the proper way up if need be. Would like to know what you all think.

Cheers Kale.

its better if you mount it right way up so you dont get an air pocket in the water jacket.
if this happens the convertor freezes up and you wont be going anywhere.

I had thought of that, so would the bolt on top (the proper top) be there to bleed the heating system?

dont know.
never taken it out.
the only time mine's frozen up, have poured water over it and cracked the seal on the return hose to bleed the system thru.

I hooked the converter up to the garden hose then took that bolt out & It has nothing to do with the heating system so geuss we know that now.

The "bolt" or plug at the top is a test port for the primary regulator pressure. The model L is a two stage negative outlet pressure converter. The primary regulator output is +6.9 to +13.8 kPa and the secondary output is set to -0.37 kPa.

So if were to remove this plug once LPG has been connected to the input, gas at low pressure would come out.

Any converter should be mounted with the vapour outlet at the lowest point. If it is mounted with the outlet on the side or towards the top then liquid contaminants in the LPG will build up inside the converter and stop it from working properly.
