186 rebuild

Got a few questions about rebuilding a 186. how far can you bore out a 186 b4 it become to unstable? 40thou or 60thou?
what sort of head shold i use to give me my best performance? should i go yella terra and roller rockers and port the head or is theri a nother option with less expenc than yella terra? although i have been told they are the best. what other options do i have with tricking up the pistons and rods if any?and what is the best carby set up, ive got a 350 holley with over size jets and i was going to re size back to 45mm or 50mm
any sugestion would help.
At the end of the day i want something with grunt and value for money, as im still at uni.

I dunno about everyone else but my recomendations are my own. I believe in a 60 thou oversize, 202 cam, yella terra head and roller rockers, new alloy timing gear & a 350 holley will be good.

Ive seen something at these specs beating V8s off the line and down the end of the track1

To make your 186 go hard for as little money as possible get a stage four cam, reground dont worry bout the crow cams (just more expense). make sure its got an alloy timing gear those plastic ones are (TYPO;), also replace the gear on the end of the dizzy with a steel one as the plastic ones are also (TYPO;). a three fifty holley with a dingo manifold. get the heads ported and a bit shaved off, far cheaper than the yellow terra. extractors are always good should be able to find some in someones back yard for a carton of piss (important when your at uni). and mate you eill notice the difference next time some (TYPO;) house coonadore trys to drag you off.

also have had a i86 bored out 80thou and i dont recommend it.

60 thou is the most you con safely go on any holden six before you start getting too close to your water jackets. get a 12 port 3.3 head with an XU1 Torana spec cam from crane or crow DONT get 1 ground as you reduce the base circle off the back of your cam and it plays havoc with hydraulic lifters and you'll either have rattly tappets or valves holding.Bump the commpression up 2 around 12:1 (98 octane a must & you will have 2 run adjustable rockers 2 compensate for the head plane for correct lifter pre-load.A 350 holley will work if jetted properly but with triple side-draught webers it will go like a scalded cat. Last but not least 3.3 injected motors had factory 6-3-1 headers which work extremly well in almost all modified street applications and their a damn site cheaper than aftermarket ones.
