An alternative view on the CRS saga

OK well there have been plenty of negative comments in regards to CRS but think where the modified car scene would be today if it hadn't been for Rod Hadfield? Rod's engineering expertise has given us all sorts of innovative bits and pieces for our old holdens, allowing gearbox, engine and diff swaps, a lower stance while retaining full suspension travel and dual circuit braking products among many others. Yes he definitely can be a bit shirty sometimes but imagine how many time wasters the bloke gets? We'd all probably get pissed off if we had 15 year olds ringing up asking if they can put a 454 in their gemini for under a grand!

Would customers be happier if he had some receptionist answer the phone who knew bugger all about cars?

I have dealt with Rod before and bought about two grands worth of parts from him and everything I've got is good quality stuff. True, he's not perfect but the modified car scene in Australia is very small compared with the USA where heaps of companies make the sort of gear that CRS specialises in. Basically what I'm trying to say is that he's the best we've got for a number of products, especially where Holdens are concerned as Ford fans can and do utilise the big aftermarket industry in the States.

Which still doesn't give him an excuse to treat customers the way we've heard he does, especially once he already has their money...personally, I've never had dealings with him, so my comments are based only on what I've seen here recently, but even his support admits that he lacks customer relations, even when it's his business that's made the mistake.

exactly, well said reaper.

also i'm only commenting in MY personal dealings with CRS.

my kit was missing parts.

the parts i were supplied with were faulty.

when i recieved the missing parts i found them to be in used 2nd hand condition.

when i recieved a replacement for my other faulty part, i found that it also did not fit properly.

in all my dealings with him thru email and on the phone, he has been arrogant, rude and grumpy.
although i see your point about people wasting his time, you cant put that down to me being a "15 yr old time waster".
i'm 25, and told him right from the start that i wanted to purchase his supercharger kit. i paid $1700 for it. and still i get [Naughty Pottyword] service.

as reaper said, theres no excuse...

at the end of the day, all small business's are the same, consumers pay for them to supply a product or service, weather it be car parts, vegetables, sex, whatever... if the consumer has a bad experiance or gets a faulty product and the customer service is bad.. they're not likely to return to that business. and the consumer is also likely to tell thier friends of thier bad experiance.

the same principal also works in reverse... you get good service... you recommend the business to others.

thats all i'm doing here, just stating my case.

What parts were you missing? The pulley to drive the blower to go on the harmonic balancer is second hand. This is because the time and tooling costs to make repro ones world be massive. The rubbers to go on the blower pipes are new, just have marks in them because he made them and used these ones for a mould. I know the parts come with a somewhat unsatisfactory black finish, flaking etc., but most people, including myself, will paint these items to suit their engine bay.

Don't get me wrong mate, I have been ripped off before, my gearbox conversion cost me over double what it has cost others (I am talking $1500+) I was pissed off, but got over it.

CRS make an incredible amount of different products, and they are pioneers in the industry. You might be pissed, it might be their fault, but is doesn't mean that every one of their customers or products is going to have the same problem, and I will continue recommending all their products to others.

the rubber couplings and stainless steel hose clamps were missing. the ones he sent out to me later are definatly second had. the clamps are worn and have marks and scratches on them (i know they're only hose clamps, but hey.. i paid for these and expected better!) also the couplings had marks from clamps on them and were dirty and in used condition. i will post pictures if u want!
i'm aware the drive pully is second hand.

I personally have not had any dealings with CRS, but my father-in-law and his mates (hot rod dudes...) have had many dealings with him in the past.

Every item/kit that they have bought from him has been "wrong" in some way or another, parts missing, not fitting, etc. These guys have not a single good word to say about CRS after 25+ years of being involved in hot rods and custom vehicles.

Also I have been told that Rod Hadfield was one of the instigators of the legislation that requires engineers certificates for modified vehicles...

As I said I have never dealt with CRS, but I have only ever heard BAD things about them from people who have been doing this stuff for a long time.
