power

hey guys, I was looking for a way to give my hq tunna a bit more power, it only has the red 202 and i need the economy cos im only a student, so if anyone knows a way to give it a bit more power for not much money give us a yell,

Switch it to Optimax with an valve seat protecting additive, that's the easiest way to get a little more power and better economy, of course you pay for it at the pump...

Other options are electronic ignition and extractors but both would set you back too much money for a student to consider. If you can go a higher diff ratio (for example if you are running a 3.36 go a 3.55) that way you will launch quicker but you will lose top end power on a highway (you can do the job yourself if you can find a cheap second hand diff center though).

That's all I'm willing to recommend to a student because I can remember what it's like.

ive got a 253 on leaded/gas. it has a valve oil system which drips oil into the valves to help stop them screwing up from being on gas... can i run unleaded fuel/optimax(BP 2000 etc.) to improve my power? anyone with any sugestions/comments please!

If it runs leaded then it can run unleaded with valve seat protectant but you need to use a premium unleaded to gain any power and it's not like it's going to throw you back into your seat, far from it, infact on some engines it may not even make a noticeable difference. For instance on my car it gives me slightly better mileage, better running/idling and less pinging, on the wifes it gives a hell of a lot more power and better mileage. You've just got to try it and see for yourself.

Check it out properly before switching to premium unleaded though, my motors were all leaded only so I'm not sure about your motor.

Ben, if your 253 is modded for gas then it can run unleaded with out additives,gas seats and valves are hardened as are unleaded engines

its not modified for gas its just got valve lubrication kit (you know a bottle that sits on the fire wall that drips oil every 30 secs or so) so without modification can i still run unleaded premium fuel???

sounds like you have a "Flashlude Injection" set up,this is designed to run ULP in pre 1984 engines so no worries you can use ULP or better still BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax high octane premium fuels, you must of course keep the bottle topped up with " Flashlube", around $17 a bottle from auto shops or servos, 1ml per litre dosing so it goes a long way, but don't panic a tank or ten without it won't kill your motor

hey mate, im in the process of doing up my 202 and im also a student, what im going to do to it is bore it out, over size pistons, yella terra head, 350 holly, and switch to Optimax and usuing the valve seat protecting additive. i have a part time job so thats where my $$ is coming from so im not sure if any of that can help ya but it might gave u an idea on what u can do.

to run the premium unleaded do i have to run the leaded completely out of my tank before i mix the 2 fuels?

No, but fill up when close to empty, and don't expect differences straight away, on my cars I noticed the difference after about 2km of driving, on other cars I've heard people say they've run 3 full tanks of juice through before they noticed a difference.

only for so long mate then it will give you grief, but use Flashlube or Fuelstar and you will be sweet

If they use hardened valve seats then yes, same with any head.
