stall converters

hello,

i am rebuilding a stroked 355 and deciding on my cam. i don't know what to do since the car will still be street driven though the cams i have been looking at have rev ranges starting from 3500plus. how do i go with a stally of 3500 to suit that cam. the car should only rev around 3300 on the highway does that mean it will always slip? does that do damage? do i drive it in 2nd or something (not good for fuel though)???

I have a 3500 stall which i drive on the street. (Weekend car)
At 80 kays the engine is turning at 2900rpm and that is with 4:11 gears.
Things you should not do with a big stall is place high load on it in the lower rev range, such as using 2.78 gearing or towing.
Other then that, should be fine.
For such a cam like my crane 288, it is fairly smooth on the street, but traffic will be a major pain in the but as all they want to do is accelerate.

yeh as long as you use a good auto cooler and keep a check on the fluid it should be ok even with a higher stall than 3500.

As trenton said, should be fine. I've run a 288 crane with 3800 stall & 4.44 gears & it was not a worry & still rather pleasant to drive. I also drove that same car from Vic across to WA but used a 3.08 rear end & it gave no worries with the stall on that trip & I also towed a trailer behind it with two roadbikes in it all the way.
