Hydraulic Lifters

Hi,

Do I need to prime new Hydraulic lifters for a holden 6, or will oil pressure build on start up do this? It's a rebuild so I'll turn the engine over until I have oil pressure before I let it fire.

Thanks

Hi,

I have just been running up a newly built engine over the past week

I left the Followers in oil over night before installing them.

It turns out there are differnt theories on what adjustment to make on the Rockers. e.g. I was told to take slack out of Rockers and turn each retaining nut down 1/2 a turn, all this did was open up the valves and the motor just spun with out any influence from the valves...

The way that worked was to slacken off rockers one by one, so they 'wobble', very technical terminology, turning engine on to top dead centre on compression stroke for each piston in turn, and the motor sounds good Brrrrruuummm...

Yep, soak in oil overnight is good.

The "tighten ยฝ turn past zero lash" is right for an early style head...you just have to do it on TDC of the compression stroke for each pot.

The later style head has a torque value for the bolt (about 24 or 28 ft/lbs from memory) and must also be done at TDC on the compression stroke for that cylinder.
