Air Con Setup WANTED

Hey all I'm chasing after a complete factory Air Con Setup for my Holden HZ ute. I have been advised that I have to replace alot of the old stuff with new gear. Everyone who I ask for an Air-Con setup tries to charge an arm and a leg for a bunch of old gear that I won't even use.

Does anyone have a Air Con setup that they are willing to sell at a reasonable price?

Cheers,
Drew

basically all you need is the under bonnet airbox thing they are all the same. Then you need the dash switch control hq is a bit different but will still work, then you need the behind dash vents and the cables the cables are different to the standard ones they are essential and lastly you need the air inlet vent on the left side. the original setup removed the right hand one and blanked the hole off for some reason, I left it in.

I have a factory setup out of a HZ wagon here...

Heater box, controls, underdash venting, etc.

But most of the underbonnet stuff is missing, compressor, condenser, hoses (been cut). Drying canister and all wiring are there though.

Outer Western Melbourne. Probably a bit big to post...

I have a aftermarket evaporator unit you could buy.
Im in Darwin, you pay postage. You want to look, i email pics.
Is your car v8 or 6?
The unit suits factory non airconditoned cars. Uses the original piping and controlls. Plumbs inline. Hides behind the glove box.
Email me, if your interested.
Apart for the motor brackets, the rest of the parts are best of sourced new.

Hi guys, I,m brand new to this site. I'm thinking of buying a 77 HZ Kingswood ute 4.2 T-bar auto. It doesn't have air. I live in western Sydney. If I buy this ute, how difficult & expensive woild it be to have air fitted & where can I go. I'm not confident in trying to do it myself. Hope you can help me.

Drew, I am sort of going through the same process with my HZ Staty (see New Shed )
My problem is that I am sick and tired of the unreliability of the original delco units I have had 2 in 18 years , recod them both only to heve the seals go in them.
What I am doing is going through the process of changing to a Sanden unit, more efficient ,more reliable. However the problem is getting the correct conversion brackets to do the change. (Which I have located through old holden)
Look at it this way it could cost you up to a couple of hundred to buy a second hand delco pump. Then about $300 to get it recod. You can buy a brand new Sanden for around $350 + the brackets bolts & correct drive belt in a kit from speedyair spares in Bundy.
For all your other stuff look up a E-bay seller "dragtdo" Mick is in Brisbane & would have everything else you need for it and he is reasonable with his prices.
Air con stuff has always been expensive, do your homework & do the job right in the first place
Cheers Duck

Hi,
I have been throught the drama of changing to the factory air con set up a few years ago.
I have a HJ Statesman Deville and it did not have air con, I already had the equipment to do it so this is what I had to do.
Remove glove box, Speaker, ducting, crash pad and instrument facia, all intsruments and the aluminum chassis.
I obviously also removed the heater box, inner and outer and the dash control switch.
The asumption the the ducting is the same between the two is wrong, the air con ducting is completely different.
I also left my drivers side vent tube in so I could have natural air rather than fan forced.

The inner box went back in then I unbolted the LH engine mount and jacked up that side of the engine and also unbolted the LH guard at the firewall to get the room to get the engine bay box in.
The heater boxes are not all the same, the earlier ones had the TX valve at the bottom near the chassis and the HZ ones had a short hose and put it at the top so it would not hit the relocated RTS upper control arm.
the later boxes also remoulded the area around the heater hoses removing the lower portion so it it easier to fit, though it still has to be fitted fairly horizontal for the long screws to line up.

I had to bore a hole in the firewall for the vacume hose to the inlet manafold and the electrical wiring to the fan & resister.

In my case I also set up twin thermo engine fans that could be switched in three different ways.

The original delco compressors have a rear seal which fails regurly with the modern higher pressures, they were never intended to work at those pressures so were designed accordingly, the seal is on the outside circumference of the rear casting and just push into the cylinderical housing, the Sanden type actually sandwedge the seal between the end of the compressor and the end plate so exert much sealing pressure and work well, so I elected to go non original here, and fitted a Sanden compressor.

I used the original Holden Air con bracket and made a new triangular shaped rear bracket and moved the unit forward so it used the back v pulley grove, I made up the appropiate spacers.
This helped in a number of ways as it gave easy acess to the back of the alternator and to the steering allignment adjustment, a huge inprovement!

This all took me several days so don't think you can do it in a couple of hours, it turned out a good job though.
Getting it gasses was a bit of a drama as all hoses now have to be crimped so this cost a bit more and took longer.
The guy also refused to gas it without replacing the reciever dryer and the TX valve, in the process he did not support the excess TX valve line and a couple of years latter it work hardened and broke and sized the compressor, I never did get it fixed after that!

Good luck,
Mike

So a HQ factory set up will not fit a HZ?
Do you have pictures of your setup to look at anywhere?
