Changing from 202 to 253 - KEEPING M20?? Need what parts?

Hey guys,

My 202 is getting very knocky, and before i have an immobile car, im taking some action!
I have a 253 in good nick, and do'nt want to buy a replacement 202 for the cost involved.

To adapt the 253 to the m20 which is currently connected to the 202, which of the following would i need to buy/replace:

-Clutch
-Bell housing
-Input shaft (i have established i will need this, how much should i pay for one?)
-Pedal box
-Clutch cable
-Anything else you can think of?!!

And where would be my best bet to find these items at a reasonable price?

Please help me out! Also if you have decided im going to have any big dramas going from 202 - 253 please reply and let me know!!

Cheers,
Dave

depending where you are, i can help you out with a few parts, but yeah you will need clutch/pressure plate, bell housing, not sure of the price of an input shaft but yeah, its longer on the v8, clutch cable should be alright, not sure if the cross member is any different? someone else confirm that, you will also need a v8 brake booster and master cylinder, v8 radiator, umm, tailshaft, depending on your diff, you may need a beefier one to take the v8, ummmmm, and obviously the exhaust .... thats all i can think of at the moment .... if something else pops to mind, ill add it on for ya ! possibly the best place to look would be the wreckers, or someone wrecking a similar car in the trading post,

In regards to gearbox/driveline differences,, clutch cable and pedal box are different, you can still use the six, but you will go through cables,,
tail shaft and diff would also be a question mark, they are still useable, but a little weaker than the V8
Also, not sure if the front bearing retainer is different, But I am fairly certain that the throw out bearing, carrier and release fork would be,,,,

front bearing retainer is different, but as i had no choice i used a 6 cyl one on my v8 without problems for 3+ years.

Engine mounts and brackets... Im not sure but would you need different springs under the front to handle the extra weight of the 253?

"Junk is something you throw out 3 weeks before you need it"

As for the engine swap job, i'm actually 'wrecking' a VC SL for parts for any jobs i do on my VC (L).

I have replaced the rear brakes with disks as this is required for RWC with the 253. I have also replaced the drive shafts with the ones from the SL and bought and installed a brand new master cyl. I am planning to keep the diveline the same from the trans to the wheels, and will swap over prop shaft, diff, etc if i encounter problems.

Since the V8 is coming from the SL, i have radiator/alternator/aircon/K-frame/wiring etc.

I will probably need aircon hoses as the L and SL have different A/C systems and the lines reach the firewall at different heights!

I will be replacing the Booster with the V8 one.

When i am finished, the V8 will be running the same driveline ratios as the six:

Trans: Diff:
1st 3.05 3.08
2nd 2.19
3rd 1.15
4th 1.00

So, effectively - same revs at same speeds as the six (bit of economy loss?) -But much better acceleration! (hopefully)
