water jet motor

my car doesnt have a water jet for the windscreen. i decided today to fix it up because of all the bugs on the windscreen. anyone know where to connect the wires? I cant for the life of me get the thing to work and ive tested the motor and it does work. there is one cable behind the brake booster that isnt connected to anything. ive tried to connect it up but still nothing when i press the jet button. could that be it? comments will be appreciated.

thanks

Frank check for 2 wires one dark blue and one yellow. The yellow one is only a short one from the wiper motor to the bottle motor. The dark blue one goes through the firewall along with the wires to the lights. Ok other thing to check is the fuses ie the simple things first. Make sure that the motor to the bottle is connected to ground or you will be wasting your time. Just a question are the wipers working?

yeah the wipers work ok. but ive noticed somthing

a quick note. the motor that i have is connected to the water tank. is this an after market motor? It looks to me like the wiper motor has a water pump in it. if so, then i have two but would like to get the original one to work. i pulled the whole thing out and tried to dismantle it to have a look. Im pretty certain the wiper motor has a water jet motor in it as well as there is a diaphram and two valves that lead to the water lines. There is a blue lead that connects to the front of the motor.. im sure this is the blue lead that you are talking about. if this is the lead for the motor, then i need to connect this to one terminal, then ground the other lead??

Ok Frank about the wipers working.
The wiper motor is a pump for the water bottle as you no doubt know by now.Looking at the wiper motor the water bottle pump has a square plastic block with three hose connections on it. The bottom one goes inside the bottle as the water pickup. The two at the top go to the water jets. If the wiper motor is going that also means the pump will be ok. You should have no problems from there. Ladder.

i understand now. the problem is either that the blue lead that connects to the wiper motor is faulty, the internal components inside are faulty, or both :).

ive dismantled the whole motor and had a look. its pretty interesting but it appears that a piece is missing. ill explain:

There is a solenoid inside the motor that triggers the water pump. it is connected to the single blue wire that was mentioned before. The plunger itself that pumps the water is driven by the same gear as the wipers but is locked by a mechanism which is triggered by the solenoid. if you expose the main wiper gear, you will see the groves that push the plunger and a small timing gear which releases the plunger momentarily. A first look showed that the solenoid was working, but there was no response from the plunger when the wiper motor and the solenoid was powered. so the parts were faulty. I soon discovered that a latch of some sort was missing. an "L" shaped latch which is normally placed inside the solenoid is missing. Its connected to a latch and what happens is the solenoid pulls in this L shaped piece and pulls the latch which releases the plunger. if you put a 9v battery on the terminals and get a screwdriver, you can release the lock manually and see the whole thing working. pretty interesting actually but annoying at the same time.

I actually had to replace the motor when i bought the car because the original one was busted. that was when i was stupid, and had little knowledge of cars.. i payed $50 for the bloody thing. its a dirty old rusty thing which had parts removed from it. boy did i get ripped off..

anyways. ill probably go to a wrecker for round 2. that is if they dont have any on ebay.

A wrecker can only give you a 25yr old unit for big bucks, a new aftermarket bottle and pump attached will cost around $30 from any of the auto shops, why give yourself more grief, just bolt it in run a new supply to it , plumb it up and enjoy a bug free environment.

cheers
