5000i into WB

Hey Guys, I'm toying with the idea of fitting a 5 lt & Turbo 700 from VR-VS to my '82 WB Statesman. Has anyone done this or have any tips about things to look out for? The car is stock at present without gas & could also do with a new diff. Duncan

Hi
Local Guy bought a wrecked VS 5lt and dropped the donk straight into his HZ ute after having it worked up a bit, paid $3000 for car, sold his 308 from HZ and a [Naughty Pottyword]load of bits from VS and about broke even, now got an awesome piece of machinery, don't know if 82 chassis is same as early WB so may not fall straight in but hope info is useful

I've looked into doing the for a HZ Van, I havent been able to find many details regarding the Gearbox swap, (crossmembers and such) so anything you can find about that would be super. With regards to the Motor, you will need to fit an old stype sump/oil pickup to it, and anything newer than a VR engine has the Anti Theft stuff built into the keyfob which can be an issue. Other than that, electric fuel pump, return line on fuel tank, a few other little things and she should be good to go.

Easily done. CRS does the new cross member. They'll also tell you whether you need to modify the tailshaft, but I don't think you do. You'll need to run a cat converter if you use the VR block. Wiring is difficult if you aren't that way inclined, but Castle Auto Electrics do a swap over loom for this conversion, plus fuel pumps etc. You'll need to change any rubber fuel hose to EFI hose, and add a return line to the tank. If you are thinking of moving the battery to the boot to enable you to fit the airbox, then make sure you upgrade your earthing points, and use really thick cable. You'll need a speedo/speed sensor T piece which both CRS & Castle Auto can help you with as well. It's a big job, but well worth it.

Cheers, Steve.

I put a 304 from a VP into my HZ ute. Before doing so I rebuilt it with 355 crank, roller cam, ported heads etc. I used a CRS crossmember, high energy sump, custom tailshaft. Did the wireing myself, basically used the wiring from under the bonnet of the VP to replace the wiring from under the bonnet of the HZ. Used the relay box from the VP. Shifted the battery to the opposite side. Fitted a surge tank and low and high pressure pumps. Not a weekend job but not that hard, and a [Naughty Pottyword]load of power without excessive fuel consumption.
