FJ Wont start

My Stock FJ hasnt been on the road for over 2 years, I have just re done all the brakes and purchased a new battery, went to fire it up, wouldnt start.. Added some petrol into her as it was rather dry (I presumed) still wouldn't start.

My fuel pump is not getting any fuel into it (its a grey motor and its 6 volt) My fuel pump seems to be pumping? is there anything else I should consider ??

Any ideas??

Thanks
Jason

check the carby's in working order, not leaky or gummed up. maybe it needs a kit put through. check for leaking or blocked fuel lines. Maybe try another fuel pump. check your plugs, are you getting any spark? is it close to starting or not at all? it may also take a while for the fuel to get sucked along the line to the motor.

if these things 70ute has suggested seem to be ok then you could do a compression test, if you have a few valves sticking then this won't make it any easier to start.

Try tipping a little bit of petrol straight down the carby,as long as you have spark it should start

with a mechanical fuel pump it only pumps when the engine turns. If the fuel pipes are dry your new battery probably will not have enough juice to turn the engine that many times...put fuel into the carb to get engine turning...maybe put some oil at the top of the motor under the tappet cover as this would be dry at startup.

you don't say if it was running 2 years ago, if it was then probably not much of a prob, petrol does go "off" after a while( ask any boatie who doesn't go out once a year !! ) and will not fire, a shot of fresh in the carbie should excite it or a shot of CRC or a product called "Start ya' Bastard" in pressure packs will get it going, make sure the rats ain't been chewing at ya cables also.

only try 'start ya bastard' as a last resort, it's pretty evil stuff for engines.
