Rust prevention in a "machine that goes beep" is as close to nirvana as you get with our old Holdens. I would love to see a product that can do what many of these suppliers claim. But I am most sceptical as you should be before you spend money.

So....

About 6 months ago I rang counteract.com.au (as they are a local Gold Coast company) and had a chat.

They were helpful and knew a bit about their product, I have also seen them in the local paper a few times and they have been around for a while.

I asked them if I could get some demo units installed in some local Gold Coast cars so that some independent tests could be done and published. (I was just going to take before, during and after shots of different parts of the cars and publish on the web here.)

They said YES. Since then Nothing has happened as time is my enemy, so if there is interest (on the Gold Coast first) I will get it happening.

BE SCEPTICAL.

I am sceptical, but to save the kingswood, im willing to try anything. I dont expect a miracle, but anything to slow the rust will help. its starting to spread faster than i can learn to fix it......so please take advantage of their free offer. If i do get the unit ill also take before photos of rust spots thatve already started.....ive

Has anyone tried the POR-15 treatment for both rust protection & prevention?

Their website is at: www.ppc.au.com

Their products certainly sound both good & believeable, and can be bought in small quantities.

I have found that fish oil mixed 50/50 with CRC dewatering fluid is a worthwhile preventitive measure for protecting metal surfaces and seams

I think that if you are really that "into" your car, you'd try almost ANYTHING to help fight the rust battle (especially us beach bums).

A known fact of science is that metal (especially the metals used in the Older Holdens) will always try and return to its original state (when first mined out of the ground), so, 100% rust prevention is practically impossible (as of the yr. 2006).

I'd say that the electronic gadgets DO work to an extent, depending mostly on how well the car is insulated etc... Probably worthless on a newer "alloy" based car and possibly would help on the old steel cars prior to the 80's.

They would not do the job 100% (nothing can and probably ever will), however, along-side the traditional chemical methods, you would have to increase your "protection barrier".
