Tuning 253

I'm having problems with my 253, in that it will start, but then after 10-15 seconds the motor will die. If I give it some accelerator, it will last longer, but eventually die too. Now I know the timing is out at the moment but I've fiddled with it and that doesn't affect it much. I've been told the fuel may be running out the reservoir of the carby (holley 350). Does this sound like it could be the source of the problem? If so how can I check this, and remedy it?

Ok here is what you do.
If you can't afford to kik the 350 as far as you can then loosen the lock nut and needle adjustment screw on top of the fuel bowl.
Turn the screw two full turns clockwise,then start the car. Chances are this will fix it,but you will have to give it a bit of a caning to see if it does not empty the fuel bowl due to it not being full enough,from the adjustment. All should be well,but there is nothing worse then wanting to cane the [Naughty Pottyword] out of your car and it runs out of fuel.kik

Heh kik, point taken on the 350. What carby do you suggest? The 253 is mildly worked - cam, bored to 40 thou, compression upped.

how about a quadrajet & factory 4 barrel manifold?

As already posted a Quady and four bbl manifold is definitely the way to go. Going of the light specs you have posted I would suggest a stock Quady jetted for a stock 308.kik
