Sqealing noise from distributor

My distributor was making some noise, it took me a while to work it out because it would usually only do it for a minute or two after being started on a cold day. Then the noise went away. I don't think it was the cap or rotor button but it sounded like the bearings might be shot. However it doesn't make the sound anymore.

I was wondering how easy it is to find out if this is the case and how much it would cost to have it replaced.

it stops squeaking after receiving some oil from the sump, just put a drop of oil down the shaft, it will stop the squeaking, but you shouldn't need a new one unless it completely [Naughty Pottyword]s itself or at least starts to affect the engine. A new one will cost anywhere from about $100 (reco) to $600, how much do you want to spend?
70ute.

there are no stupid questions only stupid people

instead of a reco dizzy you can go to repco and buy a pair of dizzy bushes if yours is a bosch, will cost about $10.soak them in oil overnight berore you fit them.oiling the top of the dizzy shaft only lubes the advanvance mechanism.to fit the new bushes you just tap out the roll pin in the drive gear and pull the gear off, pull off the vac advance diaphram & pull out the whole shaft from the top,it may be fairly hard to get out cause heaps of varnish builds up on the shaft over the years and stops the oil making its way to the top bush.
