Need head assembly help.

Hi, currently assembling a Starfire four engine.
I need some information regarding the assembly of the head gear!
Is anyone familiar with them or have a manual they can refer to or know where to access a detailed pic online?
I can order a workshop manual but it will take several days to get here and I would like to have the engine back together today or tomorrow if possible.

There are four large flat washers, do they go on the inlet or exhaust valve springs?
Also do they go at the top or bottom of the spring?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers for now,
Mick.

i have not seen one in a long time but do they have exhaust valve rotating retainers?? if they do, these thick washers you speak of would be used on the inlet valve spring seats (under the spring) to give the springs the same height to be compressed to, as the rotating retainers used on the exhausts are thicker than the inlet ones.

pics would help us confirm.

Thanks Ben for the prompt reply.
So are the rotating retainers the thick unusual shaped collet retainers.
Why do they need these to stop the valves rotating, why is rotation a problem and why only the exhaust valves?

Cheers, Mick.

they use them to help rotate the valves thinking that the rotation will help wipe carbon and give better seat wear. in reality, its not so great. not many more modern engines do it, the last examples i can think of that do are the camira looking engines in rodeo's. no performance engines that i have ever seen use them either.

I have another head in pieces here so would I be just as well to use the non rotating collet retainers from that so they are all the same.
Cheers, Mick.
