Does anyone know what this rod from the carby is for?
I saw this in blissy's old Holden gallery of an HK engine and I know this rod is missing from my car. Not sure what it is or where it connects to.

Thanks guys.
Looks like I'll be having to fork out a small fortune for one of these. Not sure what happened to the original one. Might try a couple of wreckers too.

Anyone here got one they wish to part with??? Will need the mounting nuts too!
It's for an HK 69 186 powerglide transmission.

My lever is not connected any more to the carbie either. I found
if you fixed the rod next to the carbie (in one spot) you could
change the speed at what the 1st to 2nd gear changes at - in Drive
using it. If yours is not connected - gearbox internals may not
need one.

Unless the kickdown switch is working off your carbie - I found
that once you secure the rod to the first lever off the side of
the powerglide - you need to play around with the lever orientation
to slightly forward or slightly backwards, you need to test it.

I like my Drive to change gear between 25 and 28 miles so that
you get the power in 1st when you take off (ie 2nd gear doesn't
engage at less that 20 miles an hour). But you need to take your
tools and the car for a drive and play with it on the side of the
road - small adjustments are required only.

I find if you adjust 1st gear out too far so it changes over 30
miles an our into 2nd gear, when the cars cold or you are in a
slow drive area - Drive will never engage when you want.

I'll check the car transmission to see if this. Is needed. Cars been in moth balls for the past 20 odd years and has been worked on by many mechanics through those years. Not sure if this is the original carby either. May not be!

Thanks again for the great info. Really appreciate it.

Good info. I'll add it to the Powerglide Page shortly.

Holdenpaedia, they're the brakes Mate.

FYI - I use the highly technical attaching device called a cable tie, but
use the thickest ones you can find - or they crack under engine heat.

Loosely position 1 (thick) cable tie around the long lever rod somewhere
near the carbie - so it doesn't mess with the throttle then take it for a
drive. Begin by just tightening it enough so you can still push or pull the
lever forwards or backwards. I position the lever on the power glide near
to vertical.

Use a set of pliers to snip off another 1 or 2 ties - to secure the lever
rod to make sure it doesn't slip when you drive around. Worse case scenario
is the default drive will go straight into 2nd gear (ie 1st changes around
5 miles an hour) meaning you take off really slow, straight into 2nd gear.

I will post a photo of where my 1st lever is orientated later. I will likely
get some metal ties at some point - because it looks a bit bush mechanic like
but hey, it does the job and costs a few cents.
