HB Torana Distributor & Fuel Pump

Hi All,
I'm still attempting to get my HB Torana running. I've had it for a year and a half ...have a crack at it every few months and discover the next issue.

Anyways, with a little help from a mechanic I've worked out the distributor shaft is bent - set the points, start to turn it over, checking the points clearance each time. Goes from the right clearance to too much clearance to no clearance.

I presume the shaft can't be straightened as the metal would be too brittle? So I need a good shaft or even better a good secondhand distributor (they aren't available new).

Also, I've hooked up an electric fuel pump temporarily but if someone has an original in working order let me know.

So does anyone have a HB Torana Distributor or Fuel Pump?

More likely worn top bearing, how did the shaft get bent?
These are the english vauxhall based engines? Check uk ebay as there likely to be more plentiful.

Yeah it's the Vauxhall 1159cc engine. I'll take a look on UK Ebay.
I have no idea how the shaft got bent. Bought the car as a non runner - required a new starter motor so was hoping that was it's only issue.

How can I check if it's the bearing and where would I find a replacement bearing?

Give the shaft a wiggle from the top it will soon make itself known if the top bearing is worn.

I haven't looked at the car since end of November-ish, I don't recall them being worn oddly or anything, I'll try and get a fresh look tomorrow.

From memory the HB had the same engine as the vauxhall viva
so shouldnt be too hard to find another distributor for it

Holden used a different fuel pump so there's half a chance they did the same with the distributor. I'll look for viva distributors too.

Work out which way it's bent and wind over until the bend is facing away from you. Take off the rotor button and slide a piece of pipe over he shaft, gently pull/spring the shaft to straighten. Yes...I know this sounds and is dodgy.....BUT, I have done this with success. Not as a final fix, but to get an engine running. The shaft is in two pieces, you will be working with the shorter of the two.
We did this with a speedway Valiant, did 3 meetings before we replaced the dissy also on an HQ 202 we wanted to get running before fitting, it had fallen over in the shed, smashing the cap and bending the shaft. Both ran fine.
