HZ Kingswood dash lamp cluster

It's been a while since I last posted, but I have a question regarding the lamp cluster in the standard dash for HZ. Of the 6 lamps in the centre cluster, I know one of the bottom two spaces is for the fuel economy lamp, but the use of the other eludes me so far. A couple of people have said it's for temperature, but does anyone have any photos?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Evan.

I've not been able to find anything so far on Holdenpaedia regarding the usage of the two often unused warning lamps in the lamp cluster at the centre of the standard HZ dash.

Fuel economy light in a HZ? That's something I have never heard of. I gather it was never connected?

Regards Dave

It was never connected in my HZ, but I have seen some in which it was. It's also detailed in the owners manual

It is interesting, I have a HJ speedo/cluster that has a lamp position with the same icon in it with a lamp holder.
I have always wondered how they would set it off given there is no vacuum economy gauge like there was in early commodores.
I originally thought it might be a empty tank light, the manual page linked above might be a clue (not used when a gauge is fitted).
Maybe there was going to be a real cheap povo pack with no fuel gauge.

Anybody ever seen one that worked?

Anthony - Lettuce Alone SS

They only need a Pressure Sensitive Switch, screwed into the Inlet manifold, with normally closed contacts.

The contacts open and the light goes out when vacuum appears and the light comes on when the manifold pressure approaches atmospheric.

Thanks T. Would anyone happen to have a part number for a suitable pressure sensitive switch?

This the type of thing you need, provided you're not turbo or supercharging the engine. You can adjust the trip level at which the light goes out.

I'd set it to around 20" Hg (about 2/3rd throttle). Full is 29.53"HG (full throttle), lowest is 5.8" HG (idle).

Vacuum Switch

I note that it can't take more than +80deg C so you would need to plumb it under the dash and connect via rubber hose.

Wire one side of the switch to chassis.
Wire the other side of the switch to the indicator bulb.

It has to be plumbed into the Inlet Manifold under the throttle.

Send him a message and ask, he might have just got sick of listing them as they weren't selling
