If it is leaking around the centre the only way to fix it properly is to remove the diff centre and buy a gasket (about $3) and clean both surfaces and replace with a smear of aviation sealant (or similar) on both surfaces. If it is leaking from the filler plug, you have to replace the washer. If the gasket is stuffed (sounds like it as you said you have tightned the nuts and one bolt)replace the axle gaskets at the same time.

Time and again I have to say never use silicone around the car. The proper non hardening gasket goo is perfectly adequate and is better. If the gasket is stuffed you will never stop the leaks put a new gasket in it's not hard, make sure you flatten the holes out where the bolts go because now you have been tightening them they probably have distorted the holes and you won't get a good seal.

Aviation sealant isn't silicone/silastic it is a flexable sealant like Permatex. Just in case you were having a go at me. But silicone has many uses around the car and a little tip for the fellas that have subs in a box, use a little silicone around the face of the bo before fitting the speaker as this will stop the wood screws rattling out.

Aviation sealant is the ducks guts I have used it on fuel tanks (the green stuff) I wouldn't dare criticise it!
