Popping dipsticks

OK it's my turn for a stupid question...

...Can anyone tell me why the 202 in my mates HX, soon to be mine is blowing dipsticks and spraying oil all over the place???

Any suggestions or diagnoses welcome.

Most likely ring blow-by. (Worn rings). Can also be caused by over-filling the sump (crank is stirring up your oil).

Does thios engine have a PCV valve fitted to the rocker cover? (it may be blocked).

Most likely the engine is just worn out and requires rebuild. Also, is it stock or high performance modified? Many high performance engines suffer this problem also. One solution is the use of a toyota vacuum pump to evacuate the crank case gases.

if you have a sealed pcv hole, then that is most likely the problem. replace it with a breather pipe and it should stop the problem

Ant, This used to happen when the motor was about to [Naughty Pottyword] itself on me. It's basically what the guys above have said.... it's excess pressure, usually caused by warn/blown rings... Keep an eye on it, it's probably running smokey too, huh???

When the old six was really bad, i had people telling my car was on fire on the M4 ha ha ha

Thanks guys, hey, without even going outside to check I have a suspicion that it's the PCV valve because yesterday when I was looking at the motor I noticed electrical tape near the valve.

It's more than likely the cause.

I had a hose running down the side of my red six (number 3 i believe)
to let the fumes out.

If you get the chance try and get a running 6 banger and pull yours out. Get the block machined and service the head, whack it back together and put it back in your HG... it's relatively cheap and you will keep your original numbers and the motor will be like new...

Just a thought...

That lunatic shot the world's best heavy metal guitar player. He is a God. I would prefer Eminem to be shot than Axle Rose, but then again, that's a tough one.

About the car, it's the motor in the HX Wagon, not the HG, the 186 is perfect. BUT, thanks to a couple of guys here pointing me in the right direction, I fixed the problem, it was the chrome rocker cover that was full of crud around the PCV valve area. I cleaned it with petrol and it's all clear.
Now the [Naughty Pottyword]er won't idle, which may have to do with the crappy Holley and filthy air filter.
Look's like I'm after another Black/Blue motor dizzy and coil now too. I put one on the HG and a reco carby and it's a pearler.

Hey, one more thing...do you know anyone that wants a Genuine VT clubsport front bumper? Or a fibreglass VR front bumper, like a clubby one.
I have these for sale cheap.

That is a very big call, Dimebag was great, but you may have overlooked Cliff Burton. And Tony Iommi.

You obviously are not a guitar player dude, Cliff played bass. And Tony Iommi may have been partly responsible for the legendary Black Sabbath, but he certainly isn't much of a guitar player.

Dime has a style all of his own, nobody can imitate him, nobody can fill his shoes.

Hi Ant,

I have a mate that may be interested in the VT Clubby front. Please Email me with a price (qute at oldholden dot com).

Also, it may not be idling now as it is sucking air through the PCV valve again and is probably running very lean (like when you have a vacuum leak). Turn the mixture screw all the way in (only allowing it to seat very gently) and back it off about 2½ turns. Then start the car and screw it in until the motor stumbles, then back it off just a touch. The mixture screws on a Holley are like a tap...turning them in turns off the fuel...
