Wheel swap

Hi people

Just wondering if I can put HR 13 inch wheels straight onto a HT sedan (with 14inch wheels)? Any mods needed?

Cheers

I recently fitted HT wheels to an HD in place of the 13's. I had to machine up a 10 mm spacer to clear the top balljoint on each lock but was a very good swap. So I guess you can do the opposite. The spacer went on the hub behind the wheel,so there will be no clearance problems going the other way as the HR wheels have less offset than the HT. Have fun Don,

i think you will need 14" wheels to clear the HT brakes. not positive, but this is the case with HQ's.

If ya got disk brakes the 13s won't clear the calipers. Or disks I think. I fitted the HR disk front end to the EH and had to fit HT/HG rims because of this. I assume the HD is the same.

John,

You are correct. If a HT has drum brakes fitted then 13 inch wheels from a HR/HD/EH will bolt straight on.
HT's with disc brake front end will not take 13" wheels.

Remember that the wheel conversion will also throw the speedometer out. It will appear that you are travelling faster than you actually are.
13" wheels will also slightly upset the front end alignment and you will have to get this adjusted as well.

The conversion to 13" wheels for a six cylinder HT or HG is a great way to set up for lowering the car without getting the problems of rubbing the tyres, but there is a bit more to it than just bolting on the wheels if you want everything to work well.

Thanks for that. It has got drums all round, and I figured the speedo would go out of whack like all my cars. I will bolt them on, see what happens and post results for future reference. However that wont happen for a few days.

Thanks everyone for your helpful and informative comments.

your speedo might not go outta whack, as it depends on the rolling diameter of the tyres.
Maybe you can get bigger tyres for the 13" wheels to compensate?
