It was my first time there. I have never been bothered to go since this show started. I would go again. It was also good to see several of my customers there as exhibitors. Good to see the performance industry going strong..

These cars look like they have never even been started and run. They are spotless. I don't drive mine that much but I do get it out on the road. I would be out of my depth at a show like this. I only do shows with a sausage sizzle and a jumping castle.

It's more like an Arts & Craft display.
I'm serious!
Instead of a majority of nanna's, you have a majority of C.U.B.s.
Instead of working in a sewing room, with the occasional visit to Spotlight, these displayers have serious sheds, or visit there mate's panel/engineering/mechanic workshop.

Just as at the conventional version there are some displayed works that are actually artistic, and some that aren't. Some of it is fairly simple, and some is incredibly technically proficient - although this does NOT mean that it is any more tasteful or artistic, per se.

Just as few of these cars actually get driven much (at all, ever), how often have you actually opened up the jam jar with the squashed pantyhose animal faces, and played with 'em? :-)

They're lovely in their own right, and different viewers will like different things, but they aren't really useful a lot (any?) of the time.

HK'ing.

'i'm definately shore that guage wont work with my tuff bango diff and Opal sydcrome box,if it goes though my grill, and I put the breaks on I realize its better with the glimer belt & tunned holly and Ederbrock duel feul webber gaurds, wiht etc primmer.'

Your exactly right Michael, most of them cars don't even run & get pushed in & out after the show then back on the trailer. My mates FJ wasn't even finished & would'nt even run. Most of the cars are great to look at & they have good idea's but not practical at all. Then there is the cost of most of these cars, most of them spend upwards of 300grand & some if they don't do most of the work themselves! One of my mates here took his Mad Max replica down, entered it a couple of years ago & they wouldn't let him drive it in,it had to be pushed in,he couldn't believe it.But horses for coarses I spose,If I was rich I'de probably do that!

Really? They don't even run? This hobby is weirder than I thought!

Some mornings, driving to work, I like to see a bloke driving to work at the Amberley air base. He's a bit squashed but must like actually driving in his old skool rod. It's very much like this...

Yeah a lot of them are uncomfortable & hard to see out the windows & such but they look really cool! PS also you have to be actually invited to show your car at Motorex!

Would be from Paint shops, Panel shops, trimmers and the likes, showing off their goods to attract customers, all the work would be a tax write off for the company.

I've heard of at least one car that didn't have engine internals, and a few that have never seen engine oil, obviously to prevent oil leaks.
That's why most shows, particularly the big ones in the states require the car to be driven or at least started for some period of time.

I'd been mucking around on saturday pulling my recent project (a new one starts before the previous one gets finished, but excited none the less) I then hit a wall as I required certain bits and peices before I could progress any further. I got up at sparra fart on sunday morning and went to a swap meet in the hope I'd find some of what I needed. I was pumped that within an hour I had most of what I needed. With new found joy, I then swung by home picked up the missus and headed to Motorex (big hearted me treated her to a day out). I was all pumped thinking that I'd get all inspired by these works of art and start in earnest on my car in the weekends ahead. But I left at the end of the day in a kind of semi depressed state of mind, thinking I could never get a car anywhere near as good as any of these on my limited budget and knowledge, and wishing I new mates or family that were ace spray painters, mechanics, restorers, upholsterers etc

I know a couple of WA rods that were full on show cars, but after a couple of years on the circuit now see regular street use.

This is one, Chris's 32 gets out and about and he's current;y building a Falcon Coupe which is going to the Ridler show in the US.

I was there Sunday and there was an anouncement saying that the cars under the dome cost between $150k to $500k to build, way out of my league. The interesting part of motorex for me is the builder stands or the 'in build' cars showing what goes into these cars, some of the panelbeating / shaping is amazing.
With Motorex being in Melbourne every second year starting in 2014, looks like another bi-annual road trip will need to be planned.

lol at all the [Naughty Pottyword]en expert judges of who's right and who's wrong at how a car should be BUILT.

There's a huge difference between a built car and a restored car. Maybe go hang with the [Naughty Pottyword]tards at the monaro nationals.
