EFI Wiring

I might have to change my name to 'TonnaGood' if I keep going. This one is for MYEH, Ben Simpson or similar OH Guru's! I am about to start reassembling my sadly neglected Tonna after 2+ years in Paint Jail. I have a 355 VN Headed Stroker ready to go, sans induction. I am just about to bring one of these little Puppies home:

As it is going into my Tonna, there is no wiring for it to run. Options are a plenty I know, by purchasing an aftermarket ECU lsuch as one's from Microtech, Haltech and plenty of others. Or I believe I could retro fit a commodore ECU (or Memcal whatever they're called), which no doubt would be way cheaper. Question is, what is the best way to go? Are the Dunnydore units easily tunable given that this engine is already modified and I plan to enhance it further down the track? All comments gratefully welcomed

Cheers

If you got half an idea, run with a Haltech. You can purchase a plug and play or direct fit, whatever they call em. Chop up your existing harness, fit it up and you can download a base tune into it yourself. You can change a lot of [Naughty Pottyword] yourself with a laptop and then pay for a dyno and tuner to finish the job.

The Delco jobbie will handle it in your tonna, but there's sweet [Naughty Pottyword] all you can do yourself without a programmer. There's hardly anyone around who can tune the Delco and when they do, it costs an arm and leg. The Haltech is 1000 times better, and if you going to modify later, then much cheaper to do it then too. If you want anything that has a 236@50 cam or bigger, Delco is going to start to struggle. Forget turbos etc with Delco.

For DIY use this

http://www.haltech.c...

This won't support electronic controlled autos however so don't use a 4L60E.

Use a Bosch LSU or NTK UEGO style wide band oxygen sensor.

These COME inlet manifolds apparently don't have the best air distribution in N/A applications so be aware that some cylinders may need to run rich to ensure others don't lean out too far.

If you want get around the airflow/mixture problem then go for the 2000 series unit which is far more tunable and has more features than the GM unit

I am using a DELCO 424 PCM because of the 4L60E and all the other associated electronics I transferred over from the Commodore. So far it's cost $4K for tuning and it's still not right. If there was an alternative I would look at it in a heartbeat.

Cheers Guys,

Hugh, I have 1/4 of 5/8ths of an idea, does that count?!? However, I am keen and willing to learn. Interesting MYEH re the fuel distribution issue with the COME intake, I had not heard that before. I have had my money down with them for 2 years now, so there's no turning refund. It's buy or buy. I was going to use the money to buy their alloy cylinder heads, but the small FORTUNE I am going to have to tip into the car to get it back on the road prohibits this until I have some sort of financial recovery (or I win Tatts on Saturday night. I'm keen to attack this myself in the interests of learning about it all, so further advice would be appreciated if you're willing to take the time for me to pick your brains? Shoot me an email if you don't mind, dominicol@hotmail.com

Thanks.
