A bargain even if you had to pay for it. Keep it original and get any extra bits from him when you pick it up. You'll have to keep the manual box in it.
There is normally heaps more rust in the commercial models, some have been converted to a bigger tunnel for other gearboxes, some have had the front half swapped with an auto sedan or wagon to do this. Not many good ones left, I am sure you will find help here.

In NSW you will need proof of ownership and a blue slip. Ask the old owner to write out one for say $500-$1000 and that will give you proof of ownership and the blue slip is about $42 and you will need this to get it registered because it has been out go rego for more than 3 months. Because it has not been used for so long, all of the brakes will have to be thoroughly checked. I have just bought an LC GTR Torana and it had to have a lot of work done to the brakes. (not used for a long time) Hope this has been of help to you..Kind Regards...Barry.

you got the car for free, tell em that, i take it the vans been unregistered for some time, you arent transfering rego and the car has not been reported stolen (it hasnt has it)- you think he gave you a receipt but youve lost it rite, worst comes to worse your local forensic police may investigate the chassis number, this doesnt cost you anything but you best make sure that the car wasnt hidden away after being used in a murder in 1982, dust it of and check for blood first if you cannot speak to the old owner, the other alternative is to get a reciept saying you were given the car for free, include the chassis number and previous owners name as well as yours. If you dont want to hassle the guy again that you got your van from think up a excuse before you get to the rta, remember they know nothing about the car between the time it was last registered and now, you will probably find though that if you dont mention proof of purchase at the blue slip inspection that they wont say anything and when you get to the rta they will only ask for a blue and green slip plus heaps of cash, in return you will have a rego sticker and a brand spankers set of plates.

thanx for the info, but the blue slips and stuff dont apply to me seeing as i'm in victoria!! there's no problems getting a recipt off the guy that gave it to me so i guess i'll have everything in order when i go to register it...
he's had it since brand new, and looked after it REALLY well.. he was the foreman for a building company so the van never got used for any comercial or trade work, so the back is in mint condition with no dints at all! the only bad rust it has is in the corners of the windscreens, but theres not that much. its got some slight surface rust on the roof from having a cover over it for so many years. its getting a full respray anyway so the rust will just be sanded out. it came with a [Naughty Pottyword]load of parts inc; doors, 2 bonnets, 2 front grills/stone trays, brand new spare headlights, spare dash parts/speedo/glovebox/crashpads,original radio, wheels, window glass, quater vent windows, engine bits and pieces, hoses, 2 radiators +some nasco parts like side mirrors, heater + a box of stuff i havent had the time to go thru yet!!
the guy who i got it off reckons he ordered it thru his building company directly from holden and that its the last EH panelvan to roll off the line at the melbourne plant. i'm getting the original sales recipt off him when he finds it :) he also gave me the original owners manual and GMH "owner service policy and protective maintenance plan" booklet and an EH parts/price list for all extras.

How are you striping it ? By hand, striper or SANDblast/beadblast ?
If you do sandblast it, it will be more pitted and no need to use filler spray. Sandblasting also gets the metal hot so places like the bonnet can get warped if not done with care. The radio is a optional accessory, and the heat will be a comercial one. (no center console, the right core size is hard to find as they leak generally from age). There are some build numbers on the side of the engine bay ( starts with M if from melbourne) as well as the plate on the firewall.
You have scored my friend.

stripping it by hand, your right sand blasting is too harsh for the panels.... they're dead straight now and i dont want to fuk them up!!
the heater is a comercial one and it looks brand new! all shiny and no leak marks on it.with the masses of parts i got with it there is a nasco heater and centre console, but i doubt wether i'll put the consol in as it wont fit with the bench seat thats in there at the moment :)
